Default HSV moves to 24 hour manufacturing

Quote:
For the first time in almost 20 years, an Australian car assembly line will return to 24-hour production.

The facility in Clayton, in Melbourne's south-east, will produce close to 7000 vehicles this year, largely to keep up with unexpected and unprecedented demand for US pick-up trucks.

This is good news for an industry that's out on its ***.

This is great news!

But a bit misleading to state “will produce 7000 vehicles this year”. Right hand drive conversion is hardly ‘producing a vehicle’.

Indeed, but it's not just a case of slapping in a new dash and driving out the door either, it's probably 150+ hours worth of work per vehicle.

The article says they hope to do it in 12 hours.

That sounds optimistic, but I’d expect comfortably under 20 hours (in the production/conversion line, not man-hours).

Probably also misleading to say HSV is 24 Hour. The article only mentions the RAM line going to 24 Hour

They won't have only one person per vehicle. 10 people working over 12 hours is still 120 hours of work.

Well it is HSV

and it is 24 hour production.

So regardless if it's Silverado, RAM or Camaro it's still moving to 24 hour production.

So this article is no different to the RAM going to 24 hour production thread?

It is Walkinshaw, but not HSV

It is only the Ram line that is stated as going to 24hr

It's one and the same, especially with no more local production.

I know I am being pedantic.

These vehicles are apparently modified in the same factory

HSV owned by Premoso is a wholly owned Walkinshaw Company ABN Website

"Ram Trucks Australia" is a registered business name of "AMERICAN SPECIAL VEHICLES PTY LTD"
ABN website

"AMERICAN SPECIAL VEHICLES PTY LTD", in turn is an ATECO company

ASIC Website

To Say it is the same is to say "you are the same as your unrelated housemate".

I would strongly suspect that the H part of HSV would revoke a license if HSV produced a non H car

My take on this is that HSV actually convert the RAM trucks, under contract to ASV (American Special Vehicles), who import & distribute them. Existing HSV dealers sell the Chevs.

ASV are owned by Ateco.

I believe that the Silverados, Camaros & the RAMS are all converted by HSV (Walkinshaw) at their Clayton facility.

Hey Dr Tez please do not equate HSV with Walkinshaw.

HSV is a business name of Promoso (used with license agreement with Holden).

Walkinshaw Performance is a separate private company (also owned by the Walkinshaws)

Two different companies.

Almost certainly a Walkinshaw company is subcontracting the conversion.

If it is HSV I will humbly apologise.

Pedantic?
Semantics.
And really who gives a shoot?
The short version is, there's a joint in Melbourne modifying cars 24hrs a day, good news for employment.

I'm quite surprised with how popular they have been but I see them all he time now.

It keeps people in jobs and cash flowing through the economy so nothing bad can be said about that.
