Default B series FG series Seat Base Dimensions

Looking at fitting a set of B series or FG series XR seats to an old car I'm modifying.

Can any one tell me what are the dimensions of the seat frame mounting bolts to rails are. Trying to determine if they could work with existing rails and what mods/adapters I need to make? Cheers darren

The seat rails are an integral part of the frame on these models.

I’ve looked at how this might be addressed for other seat swaps into B-series; it’s not straightforward. The reverse is going to apply in your case, but likely the same level of difficulty. There’s also a slight offset from memory.

I refer people to Peugeot 505 buckets if they want a traditional looking “tall/deep” bucket with solid construction and durable foam to reupholster. For shallower/shorter more modern swaps again look to European donors and re-trim. The EF-AU are integrated rails again, but more comfortable than BA-onwards to most people.

Thanks for the reply I did fit a pair of xr seats to my 66 Mustang a few years back and it was easy to adapt to the 66 rails. I’d still like to try I’ll just have to go and check a few sets out and take the measurements

The rails/runners simply unbolt off the seat base - only held in place by 4x 13mm nuts.

The backrest bolts to the base frame, so even with the rails removed , the seat stays whole. It’s really easy to adapt to any existing rails - more so if they are flat. I put a set on some FC LTD electric bases, but they sat a bit high.

There are 4 studs on the bottom of the seat base, arranged in a square pattern. 370mm centre to centre (side to side) and 395mm centre to centre, front to back.

I have made numerous desk chairs out of BA, FG, Territory, and even VT-VE Commodore seats, by welding up a simple steel H frame to bolt to the seat base, and allow attachment of an old desk chair set of wheels and gas strut assembly.

The BA, FG & Territory all have the same bolt spacing on the base. VT-VF seats are almost the same setup too, just slightly different in the bolt spacings on the base for some of them.

If you want to see pics of the seat bases, there’s plenty of good pics in mad2’s thread, and in Dru’s AWD RTV wagon thread.
