Default Re: Fuel Taxes

whatever happens, the government faces a dilemma with
any increased rollout of electrification of vehicles and the
reduction in income it will receive from fuel excise and GST.

The main incentive encouraging people to buy hybrids, PHEVs
and BEVs is the low cost of fuel and maybe maintenance costs
but even now, those buyers pay considerably more for those
vehicles. The whole economics for those vehicles simply hangs
on what value they add financially or morally in reducing pollution.

In my mind, the government cannot and must not be allowed to simply
pass across existing taxes and charges to electric vehicles because that’s
the very thing holding back new technology- manufacturers and regulators
piling on charges until those vehicles just don’t make sense.

Ithink that governments in Ozz/NZ are so useless and have no real ideas they will just sit on their hands and wait and see what happens in Europe first ...it will happen there first and then like the true sheep they are cherry pick what happens there and adapt it to us

In NZ our roading infrastructure is so under pressure i think they'll be real keen for some sort of toll whenever a vehicle moves .....double edged sword get cars off the roads and milk the rest for as much as they can get

Yeah the odometer reading is noted during the roadworthy, but is that electronically sent to the RMS or is it just on the printout?

The inspection I can understand, but there's no mileage on a greenslip though.
