At an average of 450 odd dales a month, even Ford's failed attempt to foist the 3rd generation Taurus on the Australian public was more successful than the ZB Opel Commodore.

Considering the closest ford has to the zb is the Mondeo it's doing better that.

Different era but same goal. To replace a local product with an imported product. Ford would have sold more of the Taurus if the Falcon wasn't being made and sold at the same time. And the amount of new cars sold in Australia 22 years ago is a lot less than now.

Yeah different times. I remember when the Avalon came out and it was selling 2,000 a month and that was seen as big failure. They were even still selling Camry V6 alongside it.

i'm not convinced that is true. it was also wrong wheel drive wasn't it and the stigma attached to that 20years ago was much greater than it is today. Plus it makes the series 1 au forte look good looking, and that's some feat

Except Ford didn't try to pass Mondeo off as the new Falcon or a Taurus.
Imagine the sales numbers for ZB using it's original Opel name, Insignia.

Ford tried many times over to replace Falcon with Taurus and American Fusion was even offered and declined.
In the end, it was better to cover those sales with Mustang +Mondeo.

you think calling it commodore dented its sales? I doubt it. look at sales of other similar sized vehicles, apart from camry. Mondeo, mazda6, Hyundai sonata, kia optima etc etc. its just the way it is in that space.

No, look at my post again, it doen't say what you thought...
Holden knew the Insignia name was death, so they called it Commodore...

Ford is getting upgraded Mondeo in second half of 2019, new 2.0 diesel
and 8-speed auto coming as well as 2.5 hybrid.

It would be ironic if Toyota bought Holden and sold re-badged vehicles as a second product line,
I'm thinking that would be the perfect exit strategy for GM and give Holden dealerships a future
and Toyota even more sales.

For a while the Toyota badged VN's had a higher resale value due Toyota reputation for quality hence reliability.

The Acadia was supposed to be their saving grace. And they sold 200 of them

Every model they have released over the past 2 years has bombed. Acadia, Commodore, Equinox, Astra etc.

And that's despite Holden slashing the RRP by thousands and thousands of dollars just to move them out of dealers.

I do find it funny that Toyota still sell so many cars.
The majority of their range is bettered by most of the other car makers (except i guess the 86 and upcoming Supra).
Talking with colleagues at work and other friends we struggled to really find a car in the Toyota range where we would actually lay $$ down to pay for over another car maker.

For example Toyota Corolla - Ford Focus and Mazda 3 are better options

If you have to ask

But in all seriousness we have had 3 in the family, LS, LT (XR) and LZ (RS).
None had any major issues and were pretty good cars.
The LS was written off, the XR was sold for a bigger family car and the RS is still kicking about.

I think the only reliability issue was the powershift.

The official blurb is "supply issues" with the Acadia.

Apparently Holden, wounded by oversupply of other models, only committed to conservative volume for Acadia. They apparently could sell more because the demand is strong, although I don't put a lot of confidence in that information. The brand is toxic.

Russ you really need to update the photos of the cars you use in the segment analysis. For example, you are using an image of a 2012 model Camry, which has already been superseded *twice*! You also use a photo of a pre-facelift "FM" Mustang (inexcusable in a Ford forum!), your E-Class pic is of the previous generation, and your Landcruiser Prado and 200 photos are both of the old pre-facelift models.

Nope, the Ford Taurus never came anywhere close to 450 a month (5400 a year). In it's best year, 1996, Ford sold only 2078 of them. Also, to be pedantic, we got the second generation. The first generation model went from 1986-1995 with a heavy facelift in 1991 (akin to our ED->EF facelift), but not considered an all-new generation. For example, the "2nd gen" Taurus wagon in 1991 retained all sheetmetal rear of the A-pillar from the 1st gen, much like our EF Falcon did.

Wrong! The second generation Taurus looked like this:

The third generation looked like this:

And the export version of the third generation which was sent to Australia looked like this:

Your sales numbers are also wrong. I'll find the correct ones shortly and get back to you.
