Cool how much for this escort?

i found a 1980 Mk2 RS 2000.

it has a four speed manual short shifter kit in,
half roll cage, (only caged rear but fully completed)

new tyres, 7 months rego, looks to be in good nick

Red in colour. How much would you pay for this vehicle?

by the way he is asking $5,000 for it. will test drive it this arvo.

Two door or Four door???

Do yourself a favor and tip some water down the bottom of the windscreen. If water comes in the cabin, the plenum has rust and requires repairs...

What are the Scheel seats like? all the foam and padding in place?
Single webber or twins?

If it is in good nick, $5000 is okay, as they are getting hard to find in good nick.

Personally, I reackon the two doors are the pick of the bunch.

How did the drive go??

oh yeah i fordgot, haha

drive was good, single webber, lowered, small tear in rear seat, but no bigger than 5cent piece. ran smooth, a few little rattles, but you'd expect that. umm. yeah i was really impressed. was thinking of offering him $4,000 for it on the spot, but need to talk to mum and dad, before i bring it home. haha.

really smoth, battery in boot, along with water bottle, just to tidy the engine bay up a bit.

the car has done 60,000 in 5 yrs. and 75,000 ks since it was rebuilt

and 250,000 ks on the clock. idle was smooth, tho i forgot to as him was the roll cage engineered.

but overall i was impressed, tho the brake peddal was stiff, like it had no movement in the pedal, i had to stand on the bugga to get the car to stop.

Before you get carried away.....Ask if you can look in the boot. This is going to sound weird but, stick your hand up the side of the inside of the boot, inside the c-pillar (as far as you can reach behind the rear door....if you know what I mean.) This is where they rust, but nobody ever checks here. If there is any traces of surface rust, or spray on body sealer, I guarrantee you'll be fixing rust within 5 years.
There is a tray where the panels meet and condensation collect here and rots it out from inside. I looked at a shell on ebay that had been resprayed and looked mint from the outside, but it was cactus underneath. Some poor sod is going to buy it and unless they keep it in a well ventilated, dry garage it'll rust up again within a few years.

I looked in the boot, thats where he showed me where the battery was, i checked the spare aswell, seems to be in good order. I tried reaching and felt around the C- pillar, but i only checked one side, should of checked the other.
he not long ago got rust cut out of the rear door, and made the guy who done this for him, check the whole car, that was 10 months ago. (don't know weather to beleive him) but he was honest.

altornator is new, fan is new, its a 7 blade fan. new belts.
the carb probly could do with a tune, but seems to do the job.

i'll check the tray next time i see him to. thanks for the tip.

check front passenger/driver footwell under carpet, there will be rust there if it has been parked out side or driven in the rain over the years,if the firewall has leaked this is where the water goes and the floor gromets go hard and fall out and water makes its way in.every escort Ive had has had (5) mk2s, rust to some degree in the floor.not a major drama in a car this age.

good luck

as promissed here is a few pics i court on the weekend

i did have one of the rear but the computer froze, and i left it at home, cause i'm using works computer at the moment. will post it later.

The bloke whose selling it, said he got a bloke to check it for rust and it came up clear.
thats not to say there is no rust. i'm sure there would be a small amount of rust on this vehicle for its age.

How long has the guy had this car for, it looks very much like a car I know of from classicford forum.I think he sold it though about a year ago maybe less
has the owner got a blue RS2000 as well?
BTW the car looks tidy from the photos, are they 15" superlights?
What engine mods has it got?
I took this photo at a show a couple years ago.

the guy who has the car now said his owned it for a few years.

yes they are 15" mags.

I believe the guy in question... is his name Mark? i saw a plaque on the dask it said 'Mark's RS2000 Escort'
the guy whose selling it now said he brought it of a guy who has a mint escort.
blue in colour so maybe this is the same car, but not the same guy.

Just something to be aware of, this is standard equipment for the RS2000, not anything extra. But if the car is being sold by who I think it is, he wouldn't have tried to convicne you it was extra.

Tim
There was the aftermarket competition shifter available, which is half the throw of the RS shifter, and a nice notchy feel. No nylon threads, just a noisy all metal shifter. I sold one on an orange RS2000 coupe.

Half the throw of a standard RS shifter would be two tenths of stuff all, the throw on my RS is already so damn short, you sneeze and you've changed three gears.

I agree tim, but it was the full length, and bugger all movement. Even an early 90's MX5 shifter seems huge in comparison. Quickco motorsport used to sell them. It was one way to get away from worn shifters letting go due to thread failure.

This gear box in the RS2000 made my KJ laser shifts really sloppy, which i thought was short, compared to my girlfriends 04 Elantra.

for me it felt like i was driving a short shifter. and i enjoyed it. weather or not an aftermarket box was put in or not. the owner stated to me that all he has done to the car was fix up a few things. no mods had been carried out on this car since he purchased it.

The guy who is selling it this RS2000, his name is Andrew.

However i did notice a plaque on the dash that said 'Mark's RS2000 Escort'
and Andrew told me he brought this RS2000 of Mark, who owns and was doing up a blue Escort.

I was looking at fordlaser.com and there is a guy selling a 'White Lightning'.

KB 1985 Ford Laser Turbo. only 300 were ever built. 150 3door and 150 5door.

this guy has build #145. 3door,

has some serious mods to it, rust on the rear boot lid, on the top driver side window seal.

he is only asking $2000. plus $500 for 11months rego, and if you want the sound system, sub, amp,CDplayer he wants $300. but he is in Melbourne

this option looks very promising, however the Escort looks so good....

If only i could have both........

insurance is expensive, whatever you decide.

Personally, I'm a huge rwd fan, so no guesses what I'd pick if I had to make the decision!

And a Laser will never have the head-turning appeal, or the fan base of the RS2000.

But, each car has its own merits and you need to decide which is worth more to you!
