Default Caltex Vortex 98 finally to come to Tasmania

Finally, some competition for BP Ultimate which is selling for between $1.50 to $1.55.

http://www.caltex.com.au/LatestNews/....aspx?ID=13189

Long overdue. Hopefully will force the price of BP Ultimate down here in Tassie. Because I think that I would still prefer BP over Vortex.....

I know Murcott's in Devonport and Wattle Hill heading out of Latrobe have it. But they are the only couple I've seen with it. So far.

Yay! Just noticed this of Saturday. We finally get some decent stuff, but when are the prices going to match the mainland. When I read about queenslanders whingeing about paying $1.40 per litre I think "what the?!!"

Looks like Woolworths on Formby have it too. Saw the flag there last week.

Yes, from the BP refinery in Kwinana, W.A.

It then gets treated further by the other companies before being sold to the public.

As long as it drives the price of BP Ultimate down a bit I'll be happy.

I remember a couple of threads a few years back about, particularly this one:-
http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthr...highlight=fuel

where there was a heavy trend towards people feeding their turbos BP Ultimate.

I'll definitiely give the Vortex a go though and see how she performs. If it's all from teh same refinery then you wouldn't expect there to be much difference in quality.

Well my turbo has only ever lived on Ultimate
except for one tank coming out of Sydney last year, where it got a taste of Mobils 98
So hard for me to judge
The stroked windor used to drink Vortex 95, until BP released Ultimate
since then only really drunk that, (occasional tank of V100 when its been to the mainland)
Th V8 actually seems to drink more 98 than it did 95
so who knows
But I agree $151.9 for ultimate hurts, especially with a ute that takes 72 litres

Horse and cart matches that joke of a highway but thats another topic

More of the good stuff can only be a good thing. Also unless your car is tuned for the better stuff it wont really perform any better than regular; maybe a tad better response but it would be just wishful thinking.

$1.50 isn't that bad, I paid 1.42 for regular the other week which had me in shock.

Well, I gotta run it in mine. I also run it in my other vehicle - even though it only needs 91 RON.

I was worried there about the BP oil spill thinking that the compnay would go under and that there would be no 98RON in tassie again.

As i Said, used to run it on 95, once 98 became available, i have used that
No more performance, prob worse fuel economy, but runs nicer

I don't know polyal, I used to get 30-40kms a tank extra in my old (200,000+kms) 5.0 EB Fairmont when Shell first bought out Optimax, I was living on the mainland at that stage. So I'd like to think the 5.6 would react better to it. But not having tried 95 or below in it I can't say for sure.

But after seeing some engine internals after 30,000+kms of Ultimate I would use it just for the extra cleaning properties. Not as clean LPG though!

The reason I use it to Damon
its definitely not for its extra claimed fuel economy

I thought 1.42 a litre was trice expensive :|
Im only 18 and filling my XC with V Power from shell just hurts the pocket
even though usual unleaded 91 hurts the engine more i have to use that and then only put a weeee bit o' v into it to clean it out
