That extended brand video is nice.

I was about to ask who brought them out, but they are not scared at all to show that they are manufactured in China (I think..LOL) which is great IMO.

But the car...well...for a come back model I would have though I rig jig of the old little sports cars would have been nice.

I cant imagine them coming back here, talk about Fail Thread material.

The body shells are made in China, the car is assembled in Birmingham.
The TF is their heritage model

Is that the new one? It looks exactly the same as the last one..just tidied up at the front and some new headlights?

Interesting about the manufacturing process...in an age were we crap on about being green it makes more sense to but the shell/chassis in another country then ship and truck it to England....its all about the $$$ hey.

Try making a modern version of the original, or at least an MGB, instead of that faceless little convertible.

Hell, Morgan has been building basically the same car (down to the wooden frame) for more decades than most people have been alive, and have a waiting list of orders as long as your arm. If they can do it, an equally well-known and loved brand as MG should be able to do it...

Thats pretty much what I was thinking.

It seems they have come back from bankruptcy with guess what, pretty much the same cars...hmmm

+1 to retro MGB

Porsche are another example who have been able to keep the same style but update it along the way.

I mean look at their concept car, could it be anymore generic if they tried. Not something a "specialty" marque should be doing IMO.but hey its not my dollars..hehe

Check out the other new MG, an actual 'new' car the MG6... still based on the Rover 75, but a little more up to date. Unfortunately it is mostly CKD Chinese kit componentry assembled by Brummies in Longbridge, so won't set the world alight with cutting edge technology.

MG Rover have already done that back in the early 90's called the MGRV8. Based on the original MGB bodyshell but with changes including a Rover 3.9 lt V8 with heaps of torque.

Read more about it, and photos here. Too much torque IMO for the chassis, which was about just right for the original 1800cc in the MGB, which I have had an Aussie built example for about 15 years and will probably get buried in it.

With regard to the new MG TF, I just wonder for how long they will be made. Depreciation was terrible on the earlier ones, hopefully they have fixed the head gasket etc. problems of the K series engine in the new 'N' version. Somehow I think the Mazda MX5 is a much better proposition, for probably less money.

i'd agree...the MX5 is a thousand times the car that the "new" MG was...still is a great car for that matter.

I wouldn't be so sure. The MG F (now TF) was originally designed when MG was owned by BMW. It outsold the MX5 in the UK continuously until Rover went bust.

As far as I'm aware, they were making money from the F/TF, they were losing money on the Rover side of things though. If they upgraded the interior and put an upgraded/newer engine into it when putting back into production, I think it will do well.

As for the MG6, according to an article I read in the Telegraph (UK) it isnt based on the Rover 75, the only common component is the front subframe.

Yes well, the British have shown in the past that they have a funny attachment to cars that, while British to the bootstraps, are unmitigated mechanical disasters, because they're "British cars"...

As Jeremy Clarkson said of the new MG, the only thing "British racing" on it is the glue on the back of the badge from a dead race horse!

Will be a hit (and miss..) kinda car.

I disagree, its a car designed in Europe back when MG were owned by BMW.

The tooling used in China to manufacture the parts would most likely be the same tooling that used to be used in the UK.

The cars are then assembled in the UK, by british workers and to british standards and design requirements.

These arent some cheap chinese imitation.
