Question Au Making Beeping Sound

as the title says , i had my instrument cluster out and every now and then there is an audiable 3 slow beeps from the cluster , nothing i've heard before , seems to to happen when it is hot weather. i've recently had new brake pads fitted , disc machined , new steering pump & an oil leak from behind the pulley tensioner fixed.

It'll probably be the DTE warning.

It beeps at 80kms to empty, then again at 40 and perhaps even 20 IIRC.

Cheers,

Thumbs up

nah its a different beep to the DTE . and not speed alert as it has done it whilst sitting still. it goes beeeep , beeeep , beeeep. like its ****ed off. only started when i removed instrument cluster to change some globes, and i've had the cluster out that many times before , never happened

dte is 3 very short beeps in a series of four groups

edit: my **** up.... its already listed above... stupid iPwn 3Gs

Low Oil Pressure - explains why it only (or mostly) happens when it's really hot. Also explains why it happens when stationary with IGN on and engine at idle.

Agreed T3Man, it sounds like the low oil pressure warning to me.
Hot weather and idle at a red light can do it if the oil changes are not kept up to date.

just had an oil change ,which is done every 10k , it will make the 3 sets of 5 beeps then stop . if i stop the car then start it again it will do it again.

Regardless of whether it's just had an oil change or whatever; the fact that it is emitting 5 beeps indicates low oil pressure. Now it may just be the switch. You want to hope so.

Try changing the switch as has been suggested.

Cheap and pretty easy to do. If the problem still persists, you know it's either the viscosity of the oil (probably not) or another more serious problem.

All the best with it.

I would have thought that having the switch disconnected would make it beep the whole time!

You didn't mention this at the start of the thread. It shouldn't have made any real difference though, if the wiring was done correct.

However, if the oil gauge is not working and is disconected, the ecu probably thinks your oil pressure is kaput!

In my S1 wagon, I fitted a Tickford XR cluster. The temp gauge wasn't working so the ecu kept thinking the car was overheating and putting the auto into Limp Home Mode.

You may very well have a similar issue to what I did. The pod that runs the gauge was crook and another had to be sourced from another high series cluster. When it was changed over, all was good. A few years (about 3) after I first bought the cluster, it was finally fitted.
