A very avid reader of this forum first time posting
Need help with my au s2 fairlane alternator its only 9 months old qnd now it seems to only want to work when it wants to one minute its charging than its not its driving me crazy please help anyone cheers jason |

Hi Jason and welcome. Is your Fairlane a 6 or 8 and is your power steering pump above it and is said pump leaking by any chance? It could be that your alternator is full of hydraulic fluid.

my fairlane is a 6 and the power steering is not leaking replaced the hose when i fitted the alternator
I just think the car dosn't like me now after the work ive done on it in the last week eg; new ball joints, front brake upgrade, plugs oilchange and flush ...lol |

Doesn't hurt to degrease it anyway
 Have you double-checked the plug and charge wire? Also the main fuse may be worth a look... The alternator earths through the case, were the bolts and holes relatively clean when you fitted the new unit? Any specific engine revs or conditions where it won't charge? i.e. full throttle, idle, etc...

problem found faulty diode found a auto elec that was open and had him check it out so new alternator

That should be a warranty job. Take it back to whoever you bought it from and get it swapped.......... unless it's an Ebay cheapy of coarse, but even some of them have a 12 month warranty if you check the fine print.

Hi all,
a bit of a thread hijack but along the same line, was looking at an AU 3 yesterday, I am wondering what side effects a faulty regulator / alternator has on the dash / air con / accessories? What it was doing is the dash plays up, the guages drop to zero after the battery light comes on, it seems to go back to normal after the battery light turns off. It only does this after the car warms up, seems fine when the engine is cold. This does not seem to cause any issues of with the running of the engine, it still drove fine and indicators etc still function. I still have to go through the engine bay and check wires etc, the battery terminals look suspect as well as some lugs attached to the terminals not being fitted very well and are dirty and corroded. Is there a return line on an AU like an ED that feeds information to the dash for the battery / alternator light? Thanks all Chris. |
