Back in the 80’s for me it was Escort’s, Cortina’s, lot of XD’s - XF’s and early Commodore’s VB-VK.

Got my 'P's in '93 my friends all had old Holdens, Dad being one eyed Ford man bought me a TE Cortina which was a good car but I copped so much **** from my mates that it had to go and so my obsession with changing cars began.
Had a GTS at one point, we'd all go down the beach and the carpark would have my GTS, HQ SS, HQ Premier, HZ Premier, HR, WB Statesman, HK Premier, HJ Premier and ZG Fairlane.
Today that line up would be a meet and people would be stopping to gaze, in them days it was just a bunch of old cars at the beach.

In good old 1986, all the old used and abused Aussie muscle cars of the 70s were going for reasonable money, so you used to see them everywhere with P plates on them, plenty of coupes and sedans, didnt really see to much 4wd stuff on the road as that market was only just taking off and expensive for a P plater.

I can remember buying rough Xu1 Toranas for under $1000 and tarting them up and making $1500 out of them and thinking I was doing great, chopped some up and sold parts off them, if I only knew then what we do now

I had a mate who used to buy V8 XA GS and GT's and wreck them out, at the time they were worth next to nothing.

Ah the good old days before mortgages and bills

Mid 80's and first car was a Mk2 Escort panel van. That got defected so then a HJ van followed by a XB 4 door. Last year of school and prior to getting my licence there were kids driving HR wagon, RS2000 Escort, Mini, VJ Charger, RX2 etc. First year at work as an apprentice and HR Holdens, Falcons, Datsun 180B and 200B, Sigmas etc. Generally 10 year old or more as P plate cars.

One guy i went to school with his dad bought him his 1st car. His dad got him a car that you could not evade police in, or even a fully loaded b double for that matter. So a fiat nikki. As the car was so light on occasion it was funny to get 4 blokes, pick the car up and put it in places where its impossible to drive out of.

Early 80's, I remember buying several HJ panel vans for around $500 ea.

Used them as ring ins for a couple of on going builds, beach on the weekends and the week night drive in's at Dundas.
You could buy 245 Valiant Rangers wagons all day long for $200-300 with rego.

Yep early 90s Perth was the same - at that point XA-XC falcs and HQ-HZ Holden's were approaching 20ish years old and were cheap as chips also

1981- on, Falcons Holdens Chryslers Escorts Datsuns Geminis etc. One of the apprentices in my year bought a Suzuki motorcycle as he could not afford to run his Holden Panel van with petrol at 35c a litre

In 1976/77 HR holdens were the first car for me and 4 of my mates. We all wrote them off and a set of aunger mags would be sold to each other with the demise of each HR. 2 mates had a HD and a HT while 2 others had 1965 cortinas.
