Default Your Favorite Car Sound

I guess this topic has been covered before, but like everything, things change and evolve so I thought this would be a great thing to revisit.

The way an engine or exhaust sounds is generally what attracts me to certain cars.

The first on my list is the BMW E46 M3 CSL. The exhaust is a bit raspy but the induction note through six indivual throttle bodies sucking from a huge carbon fibre airbox is, and there is no other way to put it, orgasmic!

Next, the naturally aspirated Aston Martin V12. The legend has it this engine was created by two ford Duratec V6's, I don't care one bit, it just sounds so good. The upshifts from the ZF gearboxes give the impression of a lazy, un-stressed beast. To my ears, I also get some undertones of the N/A barra in it too.

One that's close to my heart, the Ford Coyote V8. Where once Ford made low-revving V8's, this 5.0 is a absolute demon for revs. Again, the induction note has me.

Staying with the naturally aspirated V8, the Lexus 5.0 is a honey. Now I know Lexus do play a bit with some piped in induction noise, but I defy anyone not to crack a big smile with this engine. Found in the delightful LC500 as well as the IS500, ISF, RCF and GSF.

Another manic six, the Porsche GT3 Flat 6's are pretty special. Probably the best six cylinder engines ever made.

And this post from me would not be complete with the JLR supercharged 5.0 V8. Found in Jaguar's XKR, XFR, XJR, F-Type R and F-Pace SVR as well as a selection of Range Rover's. It's at it's glorious best in the pre-face lifted F-Type R and SVR. Somehow, Jaguar really managed to make this thing sound like it's growling. Due to the nanny state, the latest versions are somewhat toned down to meet stricter noise limits. Boooooo!

Would love to hear what others find music to their ears.

It would be a toss up between a Ferrari F458 and any Sierra Cosworth RS Group A racecar.

Driving through the mountains, hood down, windows up heater busting a gut.
But the reverberation of the exhaust off the mountain faces.
Trip should have taken 35 minutes but I retraced my steps (drive) and did it 4 times.

Favourite car sound, my turbo dose when I lift off from full boost at high rpm.

Favourite sounding car, Adam LZ Barra swap Mustang. That exhaust note is epic.

I helped a customer out to her car the other day, an extremely well preserved light blue Peugeot 505. When she unlocked it I thought WOW, that sounds like solid set of locks!

That 5.0 Lexus sounds amazing-best sounding v8 here so far, especially the upper 500 revs in each gear and shift up, reminds me very much of a manual Miami with extractors, hi flow cats and a Manta twin loud system.

That XA GT Mt Buller was sweat in palms stuff, lots of wheelspin and sideways and wheel work going on. Funny how it looked slow but he overtook two cars on run- clearly not going as slow as the video appeared...

Not sure on the spec of a 124, but I had a 1974 (105) Alfa GT2000 and that little all alloy 2L with twin cam and carbs was a rorty little bugger and I never really got to drive it in full anger...love it.

But there is a lot of goodness here, the E46 M3 is one of the first cars as a kid I can recall going "holy smokes", it must of had an exhaust on it but the tingle noise was unreal.

I dont mind the ****el barp as well...I want them all!

edit: I cant say w@nkel?

About 4 minutes in when Tiff starts the McLaren F1 GTR... Still gives me goosebumps (he also drives it later in the videso). God I love that sound

And cant beat a nice, ****ed off, Cammed V8 (I know this video happens to be a Chev V8, but same applies to Ford/Chrysler/etc V8's). Sounds awesome

+1 for this.

Still don't know how he managed to get it sounding like that with a factory back half GT350 exhaust. Never heard another Barra like it.

The last of the N/A Maserati Quattroporte 4.7L V8, 2012. Putting it through its pacing in the NZ ranges, windows down and the loud button on. The acceleration from 80 upwards was awesome and the sound was incredible. Pretty good through the tunnels as well. 4.03 mark in the clip.

I have been lucky enough to score a ride in a MK II Focus RS, the induction note was very addictive.

One of my old clients had one of those. I could hear the thing start up with a Blaaaaaap!! over the noise of my mower and earmuffs on! He ended up trading it for a later model turbocharged Quatroporte, it's just wasn't the same in noise and also the looks.
