Default FG X XR6 Turbo - Limited edition

I hope this is true:

http://www.drive.com.au/motor-news/h...25-11t6ue.html

High-powered Falcon XR6 Turbo looms

Ford's final Falcon XR6 Turbo spring a high-performance spinoff.

Ford is considering creating a high-performance variant of its final XR6 Falcon.

Ford Australia has left the door open to creating high-powered versions of its FG X Falcon, following the success of its swansong GT-F earlier this year.

An insider from the company has told Drive a limited edition XR6 Turbo is emerging as the most likely candidate for an upgrade, which would likely comprise a power boost and more superior running gear.

The current flagship of the Falcon XR range is the XR8, which receives a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 and standard running gear such as lowered GT R-Spec suspension, Brembo brakes, staggered wheel widths and a launch control function.
The car coulod borrow performance parts, such as bigger Brembo brakes, from the Falcon XR8.

The car could borrow performance parts - such as bigger Brembo brakes - from the XR8 Falcon.

The source said the same improvements could easily be integrated to the XR6 Turbo, giving it a similar flavour to the now-retired FPV F6 Typhoon.

"We'd take the car to marketing and see from there. It would be a limited edition product," the source said

"There has been a lot of product launches for Ford Australia in recent months, we need to catch our breath and look at other performance options."

In standard guise, the XR6 Turbo produces 270kW from its 4.0-litre turbocharged in-line six-cylinder engine. The source said that figure could easily be raised to "315kW or more" with some massaging of both the engine and the turbocharger.

Among its options, the F6 Typhoon featured a modified airbox, higher strength conrods, a larger air to air intercooler, high flow exhaust system, higher capacity fuel pump, and a Garrett turbocharger with an internal waste gate.

"The F6 had 315kW, comfortably, and then it had an overboost function," the source said.

"What we might be able to do is mix and match the turbocharger between the F6 and the current XR6 Turbo engine so that the turbo comes on boost lower. They're the sort of things you'd like to do. You've got a big parts bin from Ford globally."

Currently, the XR6 Turbo isn't offered to the public with performance options. However, an off-the-shelf modification pack is available to the NSW and Queensland police forces for use in their highway patrol divisions.

Despite the instant success of the GT-F Falcon, with all 500 vehicles selling out before they went on sale, the odds of a follow-on 351kW XR8 looks unlikely.

Ford is eager to preserve the uniqueness of the final ever GT model. Instead, the car maker seems more likely to release special edition XR8 versions - similar to the recent Craig Lowndes edition Holden SS-V Commodore - before the Falcon is retired in October 2016.

Maybe this is why the F6 never had the send-off it deserved, I hope the turbo inline 6 gets a big power up in FGX guise, I'll be laying down a deposit for a manual sedan if it does - I doubt they will do a ute version.

Sounds like something written by someone who hasn't got a clue what they are talking about.
But really hope the guts of the story is true.

I thought the XR8 was limited by how many auto transmissions Ford had?
Wouldn't aha high powered turbo need the same auto?

Would be nice to see

G6ET and XR6T already have the same auto. It's just the N/A six, EcoLPI and Ecoboost that don't.

Yeah that's his point I think. If they're limited on gearboxes.....making a ltd ed will need even more gear boxes. Pretty sure it's a very heavy percentage of autos over the manuals that have sold in the falcon too.

Well in that case I think what's going to happen is that the LE XR6T will take some of the regular XR6T's allocation of ZFs.

Is it the "same" auto or did the F6 run a strengthened version?

F6 was the same box as XR6T- the Miami V8 box scored a 4pin planetery set that was different but actually worse (strength wise) than the 3pin it replaced from all other models.

By "same" auto I meant the same higher performance German built ZF, not the Chinese built one.

I don't know which auto the F6 ran, but presumably it was the strengthened version.

Its a car i can see no negative to them building, why not give the I6T a special send off, the reputation it has built since 2002 and the Original XR6T has been outstanding.

And not just the I6T, but the legendary Falcon Inline 6 as a whole.

That could be the tipping point for me. All the above with a manual would be awesome.

He could have at least got the F6 parts right, it used the same exhaust, airbox and fuel pump as the XRT. Only the pistons, injectors, oil cooler and intercooler were different along with the back half of the turbo.

I really hope Ford build Limited Edition XR6 Turbos as it would be a fantastic car. During my research before committing to an XR8 I heard the statement several times by salesmen in different states that there were only 1200 x 5.0 Litre engines, never heard about any talk about numbers of transmissions.

You would have to think that Ford would guess-timate how many cars they intend to build and sell so not to have too many excess parts at the end of production in August 2016.

Maybe some bits left over from a supply deal? Either way bit early to be talking about limited editions isn't it....at least give it a couple of months!

This was my thought as well. Its not even officially on sale yet, yet the person they interviewed has given some buyers to hold off their purchase, a situation that I'm sure many have already been doing waiting for the FG X itself.

Just r-spec the xr6t.

More grip and better brakes would make a significant difference. Maybe back of the toque tags a little to give it more oomph, but really does it need more power?

Add the xr8 air box to it and bump the output to 330kw and it will make even Bruce Mcavany say it's "SPECIAL"

I kind of wish the i6t went to f6 spec anyway, gives fg and fg2 i6t owners a better reason to look at upgrading. For the perhaps minimal rise in cost the benefit would be there, now it's purely a visual upgrade.

Where's the ussual grammar nazis gone this thread has turned Aussie feral

I for one think its a great idea.....as mentioned tho, about the gearbox shortage......ford will only benefit from higher priced LE models, even if they do steal reg sales. Not only will the punters love them......but they should make better cash. And use up some spare parts
