when you flow a cylinder head to get accurate results you use a plate that you clamp to the head were the intake gasket goes, this plate is port matched to the head and has radius all the way around the port, on oddball heads or intake manifolds etc when you don't have a flow plate made up you mold a radius using clay or kids play dow.

Ah ha ... I see, going by your results, I should definetly ditch the donkey d#ck tube, maybe might get one bent by Bill's Exhaust or get one from BPT.

ok----- finaly got my new stainless intake pipe finished and got to the flow bench again with some good results, can't wait to see if there is a RWHP gain and an ET gain, dyno next week and the drags the week after that.

Going by the flow bench results my large K&N pod filter is more of a restriction now, testing on the bench last time there was almost no flow difference with or with out the filter when testing the full intake system so i didn't record the with out filter results but now with the better flowing pipe the flow is 25cfm more with out the filter. Here are the results of tonights testing.

Test #1 --- was to flow the upper with the throttle body to give us a comparison to the last results, Neils flow bench was within 1/2 a cfm---- 795.8cfm
Test #2--- Air filter, MAF, stainless intake pipe, Throttle body and upper intake----- 770.2cfm last time this test with the factory pipe was 736 cfm, a 36cfm gain.
Test #3--- same as test 2 without filter --- 795cfm with out the filter it now flows the same as the throttle body, this posed yet another question, when I race the ED at the drags I remove 1 headlight , the filter and fit a cold air pipe, dose it flow any better with this pipe fitted instead of the filter , before with the std black pipe there was no diff on the bench.
Test #4--- full system with cold air intake pipe instead of air filter---- 781.5 cfm.
Here are some photo's

here is my new stainless intake pipe all tig welded

My mates flow bench

My stuff on his bench

The full intake system as test on the flow bench,

The drag meets are so far apart up here I almost got nuts waiting to test things, it makes testing a drawen out process, just 2 more weeks.

Id say the endplate on the K&N is restircting flow, maybe try one of those pod filters with no plate, just the cotton weaving, could be good for afew more cfm.

Any time you like Dave I drive it to work most of the time, except when it's apart for R&D like this, new cam and some intake port work to come in the next 6 mths- 10 mths , my 5.0l dosn't make the torque you BB makes but it stil fry's the tyres .

Mid 11's is an ass load of power.....

Can you really feel the kick when the nitrous is on? Like, REALLY noticeable?

Ill come down 1 day after work for a quick lap - you are too busy to take a break in the day :P

I'd have to assume that a 1ooshot would be anywhere between 35-5o% more hp that it makes without it, you can bet your balls you'll feel it kick.

my car makes 320 rwhp so that would be app 380-400fwhp , a 100 shot would only be a 25% increase, and on street tyres without the NOS it fry's the tyres in 1st & 2nd , havn't tryed the nos on street tyres.

got my car on the rollers tonight, did three runs with the std pipe and averaged 312rwhp, then swaped to the stainless pipe I made and did three more runs to average 322rwhp, a 10hp gain should be worth 1 tenth and 1 mph will find next week.

10rwhp is a pretty damn impressive improvement. I would like to see how much mine improved going from the original intake pipe to my 3" s/steel one.
Very nice mate, cant wait to see the next 1/4mile results.

I assume your using a Nos brand nitrous kit then if it's FWHP, Nitrous express go by rwhp and thats why i assumed 25-5o%. 32orwhp n.a is a stout engine thats for sure, esp in a light body.

I am using a nitrous express kit, I didn't know they rate their kits using rwhp, I see what you where saying now.

Yeh an ED is light compared to a BA, my owners manual say's 1625kg, less app 15-20kg for the alloy heads, whats a BA , app 200kg heavier, still my coon's no light weight when compared to some of my mates cars with similar rwhp outputs.

eg: VC com. 308 with VN heads small solid cam and single plane , makes 328rwhp and runs 11.6 @ 114mph, & LH torana 350 chev, dart heads solid cam etc, 335rwhp and runs 11.4 @ 117---- not fair hey we have to make 100+ more rwhp to run the same

Yea they def base it at the wheels, you might be making more power with the gas than you thought : .

Some cars weight as much as 19ookg's with a full tank, my Ba xr8 tipped 19oo from memory on thw wsidw scales.

Yea makes a huge difference, it takes a 6oorwhp supercharged cobra to take down a 5oorwhp n/a Zo6 vette. You's think it'd smash the vette being blown but weight makes a huge difference, 15o-2ookg's heavier.
