Default AUII Standard vs Premium Brake Package

Hi guys, whats the difference between standard AUII brakes and the Tickford Premium setup?

How often do these pop up for sale as well?

Main difference is the premium package uses a C4 caliper (twin pot) and 329mm brake rotors instead of a single spot and 289mm rotors (I think) in the standards.

The premiums are a HUGE step up.

What he said.

The standards are a 287mm front rotor with a much smaller twin spot caliper, and no they don't pop up too often. When they do they go for some decent $$$.

I've seen them for sale on ebay & here quite a few times.
They're definitely a marked improvement.

Yes, same as what AU1/2 TE's had and T3 unless it was optioned with Brembos.

I have a Herrod setup on the front of the ute but it is virtually identical to the premium one you could order on XR8's.

Depends on your budget, brembos etc are always going to be that bit better but the premos are certainly a good option for those on a relative budget or with a car that might not require massive stopping power.

Or to keep the car semi-original, as those brakes suit the period..

While driving my AU Fairlane today I lost brake pedal pressure, the brake warning light came on so i pulled over and checked the master cylinder which was full and there was no sign of fluid leaks from under the car that i could see. Restarted the car, brake pedal had a lot of travel and felt very spongy, there was still some brakes so i continued home cautiosly. After about 5 klms the brake pressure began to improve, when i reached home the warning light had gone off and the brakes operated as normal. Whats happening? Anyone else experience this ??

I have just recently driven both, with and without premium brakes. Huge difference!!
And I like the fact that the premiums arn't "touchy" Just a lot of meat and pull you up on a dime. Gives lots of confidence, although this car just oooozes confidence in everything it does anyhow

I have all 3 setups on 3 different AU's, standard, premium, and Brembo.

The standard and premium aren't worlds apart, but the Brembos always have much more bite.

Under harder conditions, both standard and premium will fade, but I haven't had the Brembos fade on the road.

I have just the standard brakes on my series 2 ghia. Couldn't imagine the need for much better brakes really, as my brakes lock up the front tyres quite easily whether wet or dry. (as far as street use is concerned)

Cheers

dunno if I m misinterpreting what your saying, but if my brakes locked up quite easy as you say, I'd suggest that there is a problem??
I wouldnt want them locking up easily, especially in the wet?? Does your ABS work??

Sorry, what I meant to say is that the fronts momentarily lock up then the abs kicks in.

Most brakes will lock up, but it is what the brakes do before they lock up. Bigger / upgraded brakes will stop you much quicker without locking up. There is a reason V8 Supercars don't run AU series one brakes.

OK, My mechanic yesterday had her up on the hoist, and then told me that it had the fully monty brake package including braided brake hoses.
I said to him the first owner must of had them put on?, He said that braiding was part of Tickfords brake package, is this true?

I will ring him and find out, as he has had the rotors replaced on it, so he might of had that done at the same
