Arrow FPV Open Day 2009

Who's going?

I'm seriously considering flying down undah from NYC... no guarantee's though!

Is it worth a trip?

I'm thinking of combining it with a typical backpacking thru Australia itinerary as I've never been there before and would love to do it for a change since I'm still young and stupid.

Ideas are welcome, if its in the wrong forum please move as necessary!

thanks,
--Russ

PS. Looking forward to it!

I've spent the past three days researching this trip non-stop... and I have a pretty good idea what I'd like to do, thanks to the suggestions from this forum and from other travel forums.

FPV Day will be on the last day of my trip, the day before that will be spectating at the Drag Racing event in Melbourne... the one and a half or maybe even two weeks before that weekend will be spend throughout Australia backpacking.

Just need for a few more stars to align just right and I'll be posting my itinerary in case anyone would like to meet up! I don't know if I'll have any money left over, but I'm sure I can offer to buy a beer for a ride in an FPV (for the first time)... No drinking and driving though!

I already took the first step towards this trip and have gotten an Australian ETA Visa... the rest is just a matter of budgeting properly so I don't loose my shirt down under.

I will be visiting Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Melbourne for sure... Perth or Darwin are a possible and there might even be a side trip to New Zealand since I know there are quite a few folks that have added their cars to my registry from there and I'd like to offer to buy them a beer as well... but we'll see!

I'm pretty excited about this.

Nice, you'll love it over here. Make sure if you do make it that you tee up a ride with someone to the Heathcote drag day on the 27th of February.

thanks Simon, I'm checking out Virgin Blue's airpass web site to criss cross the country a little bit, those fares seem reasonable although the web site keeps on crashing when I try to price out a sample itinerary... wonder how thier availability is for that price closer to the date of travel.

Hi Russ,

I don't own an FPV, but if you could turn a blind eye to riding in a G6E Turbo and are in Melbourne (and you have time), I would be only too happy to offer a free Aussie roast dinner and a tour around the local winerys augh

Drop me a line if I can be of help.

Cheers!!

I dunno SilverG6ET, I'm kinda picky.... haha

But in all seriousness I'm pretty amazed at how generous and helpful everyone has been in helping me plan this. Although the details are still up in the air I can tell you that I will spend quite a few days in Melbourne... in addition to the actual FPV Day and the Drag racing Friday night I would really like to rent a car and take a day trip to the Great Ocean Road thanks to SpoolMan's recommendation.

thanks for the offer SilverG6ET!!!

--Russ

PS. If anyone is interested in anything from the US please e-mail me. I intend to travel light so if it doesn't fit in my carry-on I'm sure I can snail mail it.

Hey Russ you would be the only backpacker to travel in all manner of FPV's and fly around the place not too much thumbing it me thinks. You will find most people only too keen to show how good these cars really go. If your in my area give us a call will arange a bit of a trip for you if you can fit it in.

looks like all the racing begins well after I plan on leaving... the V8 supercars season starts mid march while the Australian Grand Prix is the end of march.

luckily there's news of Delta airlines entering the market which I'm hoping will bring the prices down on Qantas and United...

thanks for all the great offers guys!

Ouf.... had a somber meeting with the boss today, and while I'm not yet ready to join the ranks of the unemployed, with a 3 day working schedule I might as well be.

Sadly this trip is suddenly starting to look unlikely, unless of course I can make it a working vacation.

I know Western Australia is the place to go for such an adventure, but I'm open to ideas frankly to keep any hopes up of going! I got my resume online if anyone is feeling like helping out.

Thanks guys, too bad our economy is in the toilet, its starting to hit home!

its still a possibility...

i'm checking out job boards, temporary employment and working vacation web sites right now looking for something I could actually add to my resume after the trip... the airfare is not even the problem, its supporting myself while on the trip that I'm a bit worried about. (without draining my savings in the US so I have something to come back to)

there's hope... :togo:

thank you for the video.

that factory tour reminds me of the Shelby Autos tour I did in Las Vegas last year.

are FPV's made similarly to the Shelby's? where Ford ships normal production cars and Prodrive converts them to FPV models???

Of course... before I had concerns about the time frame as a visiting tourist.

Now, I think I'll have more time than I'll know what to do with... lol

thank you for the very kind offer!

I was thinking of heading there either a week before the FPV Open Day weekend or shortly thereafter. Would love to meet up with as many OZ Ford people as possible, so we'll definitely stay in touch!
