Default Make the Boss sound like a Merc 6.3?

I was fortunate enough to be behind a Mercedes SL63 AMG last night on the way home from work. Now I’ve always thought my car sounded great but compared to this thing it was chalk and cheese. That Mercedes 6.3 V8 sounds fantastic. It was as if you could hear every single piston firing, a very hollow and complex sound (this was pulling away at low revs from the lights). The question is, what exhaust / mufflers do I need to replicate the sound, if it is possible to replicate that is? I haven’t got the $400k necessary to buy the Merc (or the $140k for a C63 AMG for that matter).
I’ve currently got a 2.5” inch exhaust from CAPA with standard headers/cats.

Forget about ever sounding like it. The motor would cost more than most falcons.

Having Heard a C63 @ full noise last night i don't think the boss runs an agressive enough Cam profile to mimmik it, if you work it out be sure to let me know, as i'll be 2nd in line to buy the system!

Hand built V8's aren't they...

I can understand your envy though. they are a sweet sounding engine but I think you have bucklees of replicating it from the Boss -

Have a listen to Tex's sound clip here (post #42):-

http://www.fordforums.com.au/showth...11279188&page=2

might be as good as it gets - absent a Supercharger.

To be honest, I don't think much of the merc V8 sound. It's exactly that loose, hollow sound that you described that I don't like.

Having driven both the merc and Audi V8's, I much prefer the tight Audi RS4 burble.

I was behind a Black Edition 6.3 this morning. The snap crackle pop was amazing. cams must be wild - more this plus a low restriction exhaust.

Nothing wrong at all with the Boss sound - but what would be the best choice to give as similar sound as possible to the Merc? Everyone will have a different opinion on what the best is so the options would be endless, but I've always liked the "hollow" type sound so that's what I want to achieve.

Nothing wrong with the Boss V8, but having driven both, the Merc 6.2litre is pretty special.

I know its twice the price of a GT with a ZF, but the C63 and 7speed auto is an amazing match. The down shifting technique by the gearbox is music to any manual drivers ears.

As for sound, it must have alot of it has to do with the Mercedes engineering. We have a couple 6.2 litre Merc's at the office and they all sound different. The MD drives a CL63, same motor but has some 50kw more and sounds alot throater under roar compared to my C63. We also have a ML63 or something and its different again. Standing at the back of all cars, they seem to have same exhaust outlets.

However, I'm happy with what I have got while I am working my way up the food chain.

One of the best sounding factory cars ever, im tossing up buying one now but it's a big move $$$ wise. They are easily modded to and make great power to, 480rwhp with headers/catback and a tune

I see you have caught the AMG bug!

Okay, here's why the 6.3AMG sounds so good.

7200rpm redline, get your BOSS to this rpm and you'll be the envy of everyone!

Cubic capacity, in general, a larger motor is going to sound beefier. The 6.3 (6208cc) is exactly 13% larger than the BOSS 5.4.

AMG spent millions on the exhaust setups for their 6.3's, that's why every model from the E63 to the C63 sound very different. My opinion is that the sound difference comes from different rear mufflers across the models.

Here's a cutaway of the SL63's (the car you heard) zorst.

Just an awesome setup, check out the size of the rear mufflers!!

A C63 revving, you cannot possibly get better than this!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFtTLfXaC6U

And here, we have a C63 on a dyno (279rwkw stock), I'm hoping to soon have a similar sound coming out of my BOSS.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwCwMRDjWGI&NR=1

Good luck to you...

This seems to be a topical thing this week.

I too heard a black AMG 6.3 litre estate ( read station wagon ) last week whilst I was travelling through Morrabin in VIC. He took off from the lights with a little more throttle than would be required and the sound was magnificent. Deep rumbly , burbly with some crackle after he backed off........definitely one of the best sounding "stock" exhaust systems of modern time. Can't exactly understand how its legal ?..........If any of our BOSS V8;s were pulled over by our friends in BLUE with that sound........we'd be off to the pits to get it EPA'd.

The Fact Mercedes can make a Std system sound like this and be legal sort of makes a mockery of the efforts Holden & Ford put in on our "Sports" systems.
