Default AU 3 XR8 Brakes

I have a set of premium brakes out of a series 2 XR8 although went to put them on and the series 3 rotor slides over the hub and sits 10mm further back than the premiums from the series 2 which means the calipers mounting bolts sit 10mm back from were they should bolt on? Is it as simple as buying series 3 premium rotors that sit further back over the hub?

i think there is an adaptor for the calipers to mount too but and if that is the case from what ive read on here good luck finding them

I run AU2 premos on my S3, you have to run the AU2 uprights. Can you get the uprights off the car you got the brakes from?

Rotors are all the same. its the mounting point for caliper (uprights) that's different.

If i lay the series 3 rotor flat on the ground next to the series 2 rotor the series 3 rotor is 10mm taller? I cant get the uprights from the car i got the brakes off. Cheers

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don;t think there is a difference in the rotors between s2 and 3?

Not that I've ever heard of.

The uprights I think were different for AUII premium brake equipped cars to standard but they changed that for SIII where they put a bracket in place.

If you have a car that came out with standard brakes you'll either need the SII uprights from a premium brake equipped car or the brackets from a SIII premium brake equipped car.

Sorry to say neither are easy or cheap to find.

There definitly series 2 brakes I know the car they came out off. It seems odd that they are alot shallower then the series 3 rotors on my car at the moment. Would making up a 10 mm spacer to put between caliper and upright work and buying some longer bolts?

If you are comparing the premium rotors to standard SIII rotors they will be different. This is because the Premium calipers sit further outward than the standard calipers due to their size and mounting. I'll see if I can find the photo I have of in behind my brakes.

Yes that is what I'm doing. I didn't realize there was a difference until I had it all apart yesterday. Is it possible to put a steel spacer on the back of the bracket to push the caliper out inline with the rotor? I have access to a machine shop at work and could make them out of steel and drill the holes for the bolts to go through. This way everything will line up but I'm not sure how safe this would be?

As you can see, all Ford did was use a spacing bracket.




The caliper mounts onto the bracket (this can be seen where the bolt at the bottom is missing, the bracket then mounts to the upright (the bolt above the missing bolt).

Thanks for that. Those spacers make the caliper sit a little further around the rotor. Do you think it would make a difference if I just made the spacer so the bolt went through Upright through the spacer and straight into the caliper mount. In turn it would still only have two bolts were as those spacers pictured have four bolts. Hope this makes sense.

Personally I'd try to replicate the Ford spacer. There must be a reason they did it this way as I can't see Ford spending more than they need to.

Thanks. I have access to a milling machine and solid stainless plate steel so I might pull it apart again and measure it up and try and make them up. Would stainless or mild steel be better in you opinion. The standard ones look like cast?

RDA used to do a kit that used these callipers as their entry level upgrade from standard. The kits were on Ebay about 18 months ago when i was looking at getting them, but I managed to score a complete a genuine kit through FTG for $600. The only diference so far as I could tell was they didn't have the Tickford emblem. You could try contacting them for some brackets; it's a long-shot but it may pay dividends...

You sure it was with the C4 caliper? The ones I have seen come with the C5

I bought my Tickford Premium brake "kit" from FTG when they had sets on ebay. When I went to fit them I realised the kit was incomplete because of no brackets. Contacted FTG but they had no idea brackets were required.

Good suggestion though.
