Default Next generation of tyres.

I will definitely be getting a set of these.

Will make the brake package stand out for sure.

These were shown at the Philadelphia car show recently, fitted to an Audi as shown below.

Sensational in my opinion.

Very old now...they were initially for scooters only, and they were, at the time, working on making them handle car weight loadings.

Then again, having to replace the entire assembly when the "tyre" wears out could get a bit expensive...

With current NSW road rules, they cannot be fitted to cars:

Vehicles built after 1938(?) must be fitted with pnumatic tyres

Not to mention what they'd be like after a couple of years of normal driving abuse on typical Queensland pothole-filled highways and 35 degree summer heat...

I reckon this must have been nearly a decade ago these were getting bandied about. Michelin I think was the ones developing them.

Next generation????

Pft to that. Been using them for years already. Even the poorest 3rd world countries have them on their busses.

Well, a few years ago I was on a bus up the karakoram highway in northern Pakistan and we pulled over to inspect the same style of tyre.

Perhaps they were testing them in extreme conditions???

yes, but NOW they are actually available.

then again, most of these 'great ideas' are promoted then totally disappear.

so, what are the advantages if you're not being shot at or driving around a nail factory?

Default Re: Next generation of tyres.

these things pop up every few years as "the next advance in tyres"...anyone else remember the JJD "Dual Wheel" concept from the 1980's?

A Swiss guy came up with the concept, and it was supposed to the the "next big step" in car wheels.
Some made it here and were tested in a few magazines.

Very hard to find out much more about them online...I got these pictures off another forum. They came and went long before there was such a thing as the internet...

I must say, they'd certainly be a talking point at car shows if you could get an old set from somewhere for your period show car, like that VL...

It was meant to be if one blew, you'd have the other one to get you home....

But I'd suspect if one blew from running over something, it probably get both tyres...........
