Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
After many months of development and durability testing we have a great package for the Ford Falcon. We believe we've come up with a package that offers great ride quality and benchmark handling even on full soft. The adjustment range in the harder settings offer a change of balance to the vehicle, with more aggressive body control and response.
The package includes: 10 stage adjustable, 45mm (piston) monotube damper with spring and base height adjustment 9kg 65mm Motorsport coils Aluminium top mount W/ spherical bearing for greater steering response 10 stage adjustable, 45mm inverted monotube rear damper Adjustable spring perch 7kg rear spring W/ Barrel design C spanners to suit 12 months warranty including all track use(excluding all crashes :yelrotflm ) Other features about the damper: fully serviceable/ rebuildable, with the ability to custom tune to suit individual customers. https://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...36290380_n.jpg https://sphotos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...61140795_n.jpg Photos are only temporary, they do not include photos of the rear spring perch. Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
Great to finally see a suspension package that has actually been specifically tailored for the falcon and not just adapted. I'm currently running koni reds with king springs. All in all it's leaps and bounds ahead of the standard wares... But at times I feel it just has a "wooden" feel to it. It's like the front really isnt talking to the rear.
Also what ride height will be achievable with your set up ? And when I say ride height..one that is workable within the scope of the shock? |
Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
From standard GT ride height with approximately 40mm of lowering available. Any lower than this and we found the car to be nervous at times and sitting on the bump stops in the rear.

Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
Any hub to guard measurements available ?

Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
Our prefered height is around 340-345 from the centre of the wheel to the wheel arch. During testing we found around the Mt Dandenong ranges, that the car would kick at the rear off the bumper through impacts mid corner and the rear and get unsettled if we dropped the car lower than the heights above. The car needs to have room to squat at the rear and absorb our normal road conditions. We have driven a Falcon with shorter rear bumpers but can really upset the car when the short bumper goes to its block height. The kit can go lower but I loose the conected confident feel.

Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
Brett are these kits the same for both BA and FG? My FG is stock atm, but my G220 has kings and konis. I'm running 340-345 ride height at all corners. The rear is good, but the front could be better, on rougher roads its hitting the isolators fairly hard even with the superpro shortened bump stops. Front Kings are KFFL-57X (thinking of changing to KFFL-57/520s for the higher spring rate but not sure if this will be a lot better or not, I think I really need a shorter shock body to make this system work.
I've recently been told by both Koni and Bilstein people that due to the geometry of the front suspension on BAs (not sure about FGs) ride height lower than about 340 can damage balljoints and other components and that's why they don't make shorter bodied shocks - can you shed any light on this please? |
Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
Hi Rusty,
They are right about damaging the ball joints. The upper A arm can exceed it's designed angle at full bump, if the car is to low and over deflect the ball joint in the arm. This was a big thing when I was tuning at Ford and the compressed length of the damper controls this from happening. We also limit the amount travel at full bump for this reason. When the front is too low the car and steering feel gets disconected. The front also reponds better with a damper that has good response and more reactive upper bushes which was done for the GT-R spec. The upper bush has double the stiffness for that car. We have chosen to use a new top mount with a shperical bearing with no harshness as we were able to tune this out. This makes a huge improvment with off centre steering response. We also worked on the compression damping forces to control the strike through to the body when the bumper gets a hit. Our piston allows us to tune all these things differently. Cheers Brett |
Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
Hi Rusty,
I forgot to mention that the kits are different for BA-F to FG. The FG has a longer compressed length at the front compared to BA-BF. We have allowed for each model for the compressed length to be shorter by 20mm using the base height adjuster. This is indipendant of the hieght adjustment with the spring but controls the final bump travel. You can go low but will just get closer to the bumper. This protects the ball joint!! Cheers Brett |
Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
I'm interested in these for my GT. How would these compare to the other kits available out there? Namely Pedders supercar, tein super street and the oz racing kit?

Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
Hi dl86,
We offer a piston design which aloows us to offer very good ride quality with outstanding handling. We have developed the cars dynamics around the Mt Dandenong ranges so mid corner bumps and undulations are very well controlled. We wanted a refined impact feel with the Falcon and steering response that matches a much lighter car. The rear of the standard GT can feel delayed compared with the front so we worked hard on the roll phasing front to rear. We also offer full local custom tuning support and service facilities. In my experience, we have a class leading package for the Ford Falcon and have many km's of testing using OEM based durability principles with the valve stacks and build quality. All CNC manufactured parts are 100% checked with go-no-go gauges with spring and bush manufactures supplying OEM parts to Hyundai, Kia, GM and others. All dampers are covered by a 12 month warranty including all track use. Cheers Brett |
Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
Hi Brett,
Sounds like what my GT needs! The rear definitely feels delayed in certain circumstances and not to mention excessive body roll in high speed cornering. I'll be ordering a set off you in a few weeks time. Cheers David |
Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
What do you have for the utes?
|
Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
Hey,
We are currently developing the ute package. This is also an adjustable monotube design so the damping forces can be changed for the load. The biggest problem at Ford was having a comprimise betwenn unladen and GVW. Both were not great. We are sourcing a lowered leaf as an option but this needs more development time, however the damper tuning should be sorted soon. Shake is an issue with the ute but are doing our best to improve as much as we can. I think we should have dampers for the ute early March. Sorry we are not ready with the ute yet. Cheers Brett |
Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
Any for the Territory Turbos?
. |
Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
Territory is a big one on the list for us. Had so much fun during F6X development and could almost keep up with the GT around Winton.
This will be a couple of months (planned for 3rd week March) off but drawings are confirmed. We have been increasing our range with many cars. The time consuming thing is that we develop everything from scratch. We will be on the lookout for a development vehicle soon with Turbo. Cheers Brett |

Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
I noticed there are no camber adjustments available on these kits. Are camber adjustments necessary with these coilovers or is it just a matter of installing them as is and then getting your wheels aligned?
|
Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
Hi dl86,
The camber adjustment for all Falcons is adjusted at the upper A arm with shims. There is no way to adjuast this with the dampers. After the kit is installed it is recommended to get a wheel alignment as the hieghts will change. Cheers Brett |

[QUOTE=05_ENFORCER;4615371]Soon as you do I'll have a set.
You can chuck a set on mine for development :evill If you are in Melbourne we will give you a call when we have the prototype set to tune with. Thanks for the offer:yummy: Cheers Brett |

The Ford ute gets the Shockworks treatment for the next few days. We will be using our adjustable dampers for the rear so the damping forces can be changed depending on the load. We will see what we can do to improve the handling as well. |
Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
Hi Brett, Is it worthwhile upgrading the swaybars in conjunction with your package or will the coil overs suffice?
You mentioned a stiffer upper bush on the GT-R spec, can you elaborate on this? . |
Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers
Just out of interested I presume your ute kits will also fit wagons? Are they the same price as sedan kits?

SWAYBARS, All development performed with the GT was with the standard bars. In my experience the increase in diameter only hurts the car with increased lateral headtoss and the car would break away quicker. Also with slow wet corners, I would find more dead time mid corner. When tuning at Prodrive we would only use the bar to fine tune the balance and not to hold the car flat. I can ramble a bit sorry!!:yelrotflm Cheers Brett |
Re: Ford Falcon BA-FG Coilovers

We have just finished the development of the ute rear using an XR6 FG. The kits will be cheaper than the sedans as for now we are just supplying the dampers for the rear until we approve a leak spring to be supplied with the kit. Pricing for the ute kit is still to be confirmed but should be at least a couple of hundred cheaper than the sedan kit without the rear leaf springs. Cheers |
