Most popular upgrade is to go superlows (will drop around 15mm from XR/Tickford height. With the ghia, you may need to get adjustable camber kit for the rear - XRs had them standard on the
IRS, but the Ghia didn't.
Having said that, lowering the car does not actually always result in better handling. Upgraded sway bars would, as would fitting nolathane bushes to the torsion controlling bits, like swaybar chassis mounts etc. The AU2s (and BAs etc) have a non-bush swaybar link, but I believe that nolathane do a direct replacement for the dual pivot link arm, but it's around $100. AU1 have a normal old style link which works well with nolathane/superpro bushes (at around $20).
In terms of shocks - if you really want quality, go for Koni or Bilstein or something like that - expensive, but well worth it.
Have you tried doing a search on "shocks" or "suspension" or "springs"? There has to be at least 30 threads covering this already.
