Mondeo MD acceleration hesitation from stopped

Very occasionally, our Ecoboost Mondeo hesitates as you try to accelerate from stationary. This can be very disconcerting if you are trying to get across a gap with oncoming traffic approaching fast.
Anyone had a similar experience and solved it ?
