We have a few staff at work of Indian decent, and who have relatives in the hot spots. I had been hearing conflicting information about whether the situation there is as bad as the media is making it out to be. In short, yes, its real and its dire. A couple of them told me they have lost "young and healthy" relatives in the last couple of days as they couldn't get them into a hospital.

There are now reports that the strain / variant going around India is hitting young people, including infants.

I wonder how many other countries have restricted travels in and out of India. Sounds cruel but it might be what is needed to keep this variant in check.
