Pretty simple really, its just a custom body shell over the existing Super car chassis.
more about getting permission from the US.

I see the Ranger Raptor is going to be the official recovery vehicle

The chassis won't be exactly the same as it will need to be modified for the Mustang shape, much like the Crumpledore chassis was altered for the Peugeot.

Control chassis, pretty sure the body will be modified to fit.

"Mustang’s return to the championship is also made possible through Supercars’ Gen2 rules platform, which opens up the championship to two-door cars and non-V8 engines, although significant work will be needed to allow the Mustang’s body shape to fit over the mandated control chassis."

and would Ford need to restart V6 sales to justify some form of homoligation?

Maybe just stick with the 5.0 V8 and give the competition a lesson in DOHC.
Why is it called COF anyway? The drive lines are ancient and so are the engines. Should be more accurately named COP (Cars of the past)

I see Paul Gover showed his ignorance of the rules again when he asked when the 2 door body was going to ratified. Somethings never change.

Nah, they modify the body to suit, even the current super cars are a different dimensions for the Falcons, commodores, Nissans etc they represent.

The Mustang will be no different other than appearance and possible aerodynamics to the current setup.

Possibly but they would have needed permissions first.

for instance they use a fusion body on the NASCARs not the Mustang - but that may be changing

I thought I read a while back that they will need to change the controlled chassis for suit coupes like Mustang & GTR. So we'd basically have 2 control chassis depending on the type of car..

But I could be wrong.

I saw elsewhere that,
Tim Edwards confirmed that Mustang body fits controlled chassis, so they can race as is.
Ranger Raptor is official recovery vehicle for V8 Supercars....

Looks like Ford is on the up elevator...

The writing is on the wall for Commodore and maybe even Holden.
Supercars know what their next meal ticket is and the tides will start turning.

Here's an idea . Scrap the control chassis and engines altogether and base the Australian series on actual production cars . Nah , what was I thinking !!!!!.

production cars are slow and boring. there has been a production car series running for many years, but there is very little interest, certainly not enough for a tv rights deal.

I was watching the Bathurst 6 hour a few weeks ago . Definitely slower but certainly not as boring as you might think . The finish was fascinating and just as intriguing as many Supercar races for me at least.

It'll never happen and I agree no hope of TV rights but in the early days of the ATCC in the mid to late sixties and early seventies the racing cars , Falcons , Monaro's , Torana's, Chargers and even Mustangs were raced a lot closer to showroom spec than later on. Some were even driven to and from racetracks . Different times and totally different sport to now .

Maybe more problematic, theres always a chance someones going to run away and become untouchable. Most series that arent a prototype or single make formula have some form of parity or BOP in place.

Anyone remember the Gemini racing series?
Went to lakeside in the 1980s, fair dinkum thought it was a parade lap.

As there is two threads (Pub/Pits) thought i would post it here to......

Tickford boss: Camaro Supercar a ‘no-brainer’....

http://www.supercars.com/news/champi...-a-no-brainer/

I like Graeme Whickman's statement very much

Quote:
Tickford boss Rod Nash expects Ford’s move to put the Mustang on the Supercars grid will trigger an entry from its long-time rival, the Chevrolet Camaro.

The Camaro is soon to go on sale in Australia, with Holden Special Vehicles securing a deal with Holden’s parent company, General Motors, to convert the cars to right-hand-drive.

They will be sold through Australian Holden dealerships under the Chevrolet banner, providing a V8 ‘hero car’ to the local GM line-up in the absence of a V8 in the Commodore.

Holden is already committed to Supercars through its deal with the Red Bull Holden Racing Team, through which its ZB model Holden Commodore joined the championship this year.

Zak Brown, who co-owns the Walkinshaw Andretti United Supercars team with HSV owner Ryan Walkinshaw, has said publicly he’d like to see the Camaro in the series.

Holden has, however, remained coy on the prospect, even after announcing earlier this month it will continue to race with V8-power, suspending development of its V6 engine.

Whether GM would allow the Commodore and Camaro to race against each other is unclear, but Nash is convinced the two-door will join Supercars, one way or another.

“The Mustang body sets the agenda for the competition factor there,” he said.

“That’ll be up to Holden to make those statements officially, but I think it’s a bit of a no-brainer that the Camaro is on its way now for sure, just as a result of the Mustang body being put out there.

“As we know, there’s quite a few Holden teams. That’s what’s great about Gen2, even within a brand of say Chev and Holden, you’re likely to see two body shapes out there being the Commodore and the Camaro.

“I think that’s great for where the landscape is, but no question the Mustang is going to set the agenda now.”

Asked to expand on why he thinks it’s a “no-brainer”, Nash went further, predicting it will happen.

“If you’re a betting person, someone within the category will pick up the Camaro, I would have thought,” he said.

Ford Australia boss Graeme Whickman stressed his desire to see more than just a ‘red versus blue’ battle, and says he isn’t fussed about whether Mustang takes on Commodore or Camaro.

“I’m not sure I’m actually that fussed. I’m happy to race against any competent competitor and I expect us to do well,” he said.

“It’s not just around the red-blue, I’d like us to be racing against a multitude of marques, because I think that speaks volumes to the competitiveness of the market anyway and what we’re doing in the market. It translates beautifully onto the road.

“You probably won’t draw me into a choice between the two because I’m more worried about our relationship [with Supercars teams] and how we perform on the track.
