Default Does this FINE sound RITE or is it just ME!!

Hey guys well i woke up today and happend to find a letter from the victorian police in the mail... When i opend it my eyes happend to see a fine for my rear NUMBERPLATE LIGHTS and another for CARELESS DRIVING.. Now one fine was for $299 and the other for $280... which fine do you guys think the $299 dollar one belonged to? if your answer was the NUMBERPLATES that is CORRECT... How rediculous are these officers? so a burnout and careless driving is a less of a fine than having blue lights to reveal your numberplates how about we all do burnouts? Anyways. Thats not the point.. Im just posting this up as i need to know if this fine seems to be normal or if its just the officer who pulled me over just being a total knob head? and also if this fine is worth walking into the police station and having a word to them?

Blue and red front and rear lighting is for emergency vehicles, hence the fine. Yeah have a word with them, I am sure they will listen considering you admit the blue lights and burnout.

By the way, police do not write the laws nor set the fine, they just dish them out and it appears that in both instances you admit wrong so what is your point?

my point is that the lights fine is higher than the "Careless driving" shouldnt it be the other way around?..... and less of a fine as its just lights...

Careless driving will also have demerit points attached? Maybe that's why the discount. Wonder how much it is for red number plate lights?

Tell you what, make one of them red and put the same on the front as well (red and blue). Then make them flash and drive around, then tell us what the fine is.

Pointless thread number one for the day.

Not at all, the law is designed to stop people from putting red and blue lights on their car in order to simulate emergency vehicles. It has to be a bit of a sting otherwise the fine won't have any effect.

My remarks, although a little sarcastic were to hint towards the reason for the large fine, seems you did not get it. That is ok, is your curiosity satisfied now?

By the way, brightness or flashing has nothing to do with this law. The only colour lights allowed on the rear are red for tail and brake lights, orange for indicators and white for license plate and reverse light, that is it and any other combo is illegal.

Blue light on your numberplate would be illegal as the cashameras cant get a good pic of you as you drive through at 1kph over the limit. $299 is a big deterant. Mostly people like yourself don't think of the legalities nor check the fines when modifying their car. Hence your predicament. Similar to refusing to blow in the bag, the fine for refusing is probably higher than the one if you are convicted.

I bet there would have been 3 demerit points for that offence as well, i recently got given a fine for having a number plate that is obsecured by the towbar (ute) and i was given the same fine and three demerit points to boot. It's laughable considering it's the same amount of points as if i have taken a red light but you gotta pay it and move on.

While I agree that the fines do not match the crime, the points more than make up with the difference.

Either way.. that's a lot of moolah! I'm curious, does the defect for the lights include some sort of follow up (inspection) to ensure that you have rectified the problem?

Why would they, they just book you again and take your money again and again and again.

That probably has very little to do with it as the flash (either white light or IR) would wash out the blue. More to do with the fact that a cop behind you from a distance may not be able to read it.

Until you wise up and change them, only then do you get to stop contributing to government funds.

No disrespect, but no sympathy here mate. Burnouts on public roads, Rice ! - Your really craving attention and now that you have it you complain.

Bet your attitude was also as bright as ur lights. Mate, i was 18 once and also did some silly things, but when your wrong cop it on the chin and move on - learning a lesson.
Wisdom and maturity come with age and experience.

ps - ditch those lights

They certainly put their case forward to introduce new fines, so therefore they have a say.

Doin a burnout on a public road and only a fine
Gee come out of that lightly
There are instances where your car is confiscated on the spot for doin that
All in all, take it on the chin, pay the bills and get over it
Mate just got 40 hours community service for being a rowdy drunk in public
Hows that for NOT FAIR

So whats the fine for having a dim number plate light as most E series do due to the sun turning the lense yellow? I think this comes down to hammering you for what they could as you were doing a burnout. Just be thankful they didnt strip your car looking for drugs...
