Default Site Blocked At Work

G'day,

For a while now, our work internet has been slowing getting different sites blocked so that they can't be acccessed for work computers.

You know, the usual adult sites, and other non-work related stuff.
Some sites, such as E-Bay have been blocked because people were spending too much work time looking at them, which within reason is fair enough.

I've always used smoko & lunch to have a bit of a surf, and used to catch up on what's happening on here.

But that has now stopped, because they've blocked anything with 'forum' in the web site title.

I'm a bit annoyed about it, but there's not much I can do as they will only unblock sites that are work related. Once again this is fair enough as well.

The question is, how can I get around this 'blockage' so that I can still enjoy the forums while at work in my own time?
As above, I seriously doubt that they'll make an exception for me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ed

Hehe, welcome to the world of proxies. At school a lot of sites are blocked so i just use a proxy server and that gets me in no worries. One i recommend is www.spondoo.com Always does the job for me.

Some network admins are nazis ... and lock down the network very tight indeed.
I am lucky they haven't locked this yet on our network ... but they know on 12-hour shifts that we need to look at other sites to keep us amused .... as long as the work is done ... they don't mind here.

im the admin at work too, and i spend more time blocking proxies than any other site

using the ip shouldn't bypass the blocking mechanism, although depends how they are doing it.

Get a decent phone, mine goes on the net perfectly. You might want to take out a second mortgage though, for the rates.

how about just asking the admin if you can have access? it's alot easier than going through a system that will only get blocked anyway.

Silly IT guys here block all the sites using a proxy server. So We just removed the proxy setting out of IE. now we bypass the proxy server and get everything.

Also the boss does not know what site we are surfing as it is not logged in there proxy logs.

Thanks everyone for all your replies.
I've never heard of the 'proxy' web thingo, so will have a play with it, even if I only educate myself a bit!

The google translator sounds like a good thing, will try that too.

www.tk

Go to that, and make a new site , eg www.rjjfjhjshahheuud.tk, it is domain redirection, get it to redirect ford forums or whatever you choose. Good stuff, should bypass the proxy stuff...

I hear iinet staff get adsl1/adsl2 for free, so lucky!

tel$tra should give us better internet services... an sell their ports cheaper to other ISP's

http://www.aliveproxy.com/ - i think that's correct, there are heaps there.

www.whirlpool.net.au - great site, internet forum site where everyone man/women and their dogs go to discuss everything relating to the internet I guess.... just watch out for the ones that are high horsed, they bite
