Jolly good.. that we have had a bumper snow fall at falls creek.
94 cm...wow...this sounds great. Started making plans.... Let's see what a tow ticket costs...they must be keen to get us all back there after COVID...right? wait for it....$199 per adult ticket for ONE day's skiing. Me...wife..2 kids over 12....800 dollars a day just for the lift.. Lost me...forever.......

$2.11 per cm of snow. What a bargain!
That's ridiculous. Have only ever done skiing at Meribel, and it was like half that price.

Yeah, I'm waiting to see what the OS ski tour operators start charging for Japan next year. I dont see myself bothering with Aus skiing anymore. If you're going to spend $10-15k to ski here, you may as well go OS for $5k more.

Reading this is so disheartening. How can a young family do anything without calling their bank manager for a loan first?
Skiing was expensive 10 years ago and those prices blew me away. I simply wouldn't give them the satisfaction of going. In regards to going overseas that is spot on. I have already been overseas twice this year, once alone, another time with my older daughter and I'm leaving in a few days again with my second daughter. I can get cheap flights, stay at decent hotels for not much coin, eat like a king, hire a car or scooter for the week for nix and enjoy the scenery and do everything fun with the kids or on my own without guilt. With everything going up on a weekly basis even the 'cheaper' holiday options are getting out of hand.

My son & mates have booked NZ. Prices are incredible, it was not too long ago the day ticket went north of $100 (I think $700 for season pass at Hotham at that time was worth spending) It's a pity, as solid metre+ dump events so early in the season bode really well! Well, we still have the AWD Territory, veteran of 13 or so seasons, climber of steep snow drifts, handler of corners in comfort, and keeper of the secret of starting at -10. That bit remains cheap to have!

Always been a rip off here - don't know why people bother especially the casuals who prior pay a fortune on hire gear etcetc to look the part....
One of the most plastic look at me sports around for the wannabeees.

For a very long time it is just better to go to NZ.
Australian slopes are too small and there are to many swingers going up for a good time. NZ or Japan.

Good ole Australian Tourism, it's been rising significantly for years on end, you can't do anything with the family these days without it costing an arm and leg.
Maybe Aussie tourism is heading down the same path as Aussie manufacturing, to expensive to operate in Australia and it's eating itself silly, you know when imported cars were cheap to buy and gained support over the years from their lower cost factor, compared to local cars. Now we are seeing this similar demise where it's cheaper to spend our coin offshore in order to spend recreational times with the family. |

The tourists coming with the US$ (depending currency exchange times) eat the place for brekky hence why tourism pre covid always been so good and hence why that Industry is/has been in dias straits due to covid. Barring camping/cara parks thats always been affordable the rest chalk and cheese. As I mentioned on the skiing here, been a rip off for 20/30yrs. People bother here due to the convienience good luck to them, I know what we like for bang for buck and in far better slopes and service's.

A couple of things unique to here I love: the snow gums - very different lines to draw to get through them compared to northern hemi conifers, you can use a few fallen ones like a box in skateboarding (more for the kids). Two, seeing currawongs up there while on the lift going back up. Three, when a wombat is excavating some roots to eat, I usually stop and watch for a while
It's not the best in the world, but it's unique. We've had some great runs a bit off the beaten path

A few years back I went to Falls creek for 7 days, All inclusive, My own gear,
Cost $4000-00. $60-00 for bus ticket, I went to Niseko in Japan for 10 days, All inclusive, My own gear and I hired the skis only, Free exchange for skis depending on the conditions, Fats for powder, Semi Fats and carvers for the groomed slopes, $4000-00 AUD, $2000-00 of that was airfares, See what I did there, And much better skiing on good groomed ski slopes, Night skiing was magnificent, Its lit up like a christmas tree, No dark spots any where, Its till 9-30 PM from 8-00 AM, The slopes are closed for two hours in the afternoon while they groom the slopes for the night skiing, I was skiing down the bitumen roads in the shopping area, Not a mark on the skis, Its all covered in snow, They get a metre of snow every day, 30 metres per year, average, One hill, Three slopes, If the weather is crap one side, Ski on the other slopes, One tip, Go in March, There is no one there, The Japanese only go in December and January, Then its wall to wall skiers, Burke street in peak hour, Go from the airport to Niseko on the train, Its grouse scenery, People are friendly, Incredibly honest people, I only go to Buller when the conditions are perfect, Its a 3 hour drive each way, Up and back in the same day, from the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Look at the conditions on the internet, No wind, No cloud, clear skies, I cant afford to stay up there overnight, |
