Default November 2019 Car sales figures- holden out of top 10 again

https://www.motoring.com.au/november...-again-121898/

GM surrenders 10th spot on sales ladder to Subaru, as local MD departs

Sales figures to be released on Wednesday are expected to show Holden, once Australia’s most popular brand, has dropped to 11th place in sales for the month of November.

It’s not the first time this year the GM brand has fallen out of the top 10 brands, but it is a sign that Holden is headed for a permanent position (year to date) outside that important brand collective.

Furthermore, the company’s woes are compounded by the departure of MD David Buttner, who has been in the role for less than 18 months and was the former sales and marketing boss at Toyota before that.

Holden’s sales for November reportedly fell below 3000 units, leaving it vulnerable to a leapfrog manoeuvre by Subaru – itself recording a lower sales tally in November, year on year. Subaru’s 20 per cent decline for the month, year on year, was not in the same league as Holden’s 48 per cent shortfall.

None of the mainstream automotive brands enjoyed year-on-year sales gains last month, the one exception being Kia, which occupies 5th spot for the month.

Holden has narrowly fallen short of 40,000 sales for 2019, as of the end of November. That is likely to result in a full-year sales total of around 43,000 units, depending on Holden’s retail performance in December.

What this figure spells for the company’s future remains uncertain. It’s a far cry from the company’s achievement as the top-selling brand 20 years ago, when it sold nearly 150,000 vehicles in the one year, 1999.

It’s anticipated that official VFACTS figures will reveal that the whole market for November declined by around 10,000 sales, year on year – for a total of barely 80,000 vehicles for the month.

Megalithic brand Toyota continues to hold top spot, for the month and the year to date, but November sales are down around 1300 vehicles. Hyundai has moved into second place for the month, despite sales for November falling 1000 vehicles short of the figure for November 2018.

Mitsubishi has occupied third place in November, just a handful of vehicles behind Hyundai, but still around 130 fewer than November last year.

Mazda is in fourth, selling roughly 2700 fewer vehicles last month than 12 months earlier. Kia is looking unstoppable in fifth, up around 500 more sales for the month, year on year.

Ford is in sixth (down around 550 sales) and Nissan is in seventh (down over 1000 sales). Volkswagen (eighth) has lost nearly 800 sales, year on year, and Honda (ninth) has fallen back by around 450 sales for the month.

Subaru rounds out the top 10 in November, but with sales roughly 800 units in arrears.

Toyota’s HiLux is expected to retain its mantle of top-selling vehicle in Australia, with a November sales figure of around 3700 units.

Musical CEO's - the sign of cowards departing the sinking ship instead of trying to keep it floating and get it back on track, its rare you get one of those big wigs who has the guts to ride out the rough weather.

Had an ex Toyota sales and marketing boss running one of my previous work places, musical CEO's trick then the company went under and 270 people lost their jobs lol.

He didn't think Holden was such a basket case and went there when they were throwing around all that taxpayers money.

Holden now is basically what Ford would be without the Mustang and Ranger.

Mustang was Fords 5th most popular model in October. We'll see for November.

I was expecting the November numbers to be bad with yesterday's announcement of David Buttner's resignation.

In another universe, FOA is producing the Ranger at Broady and has begun to win export contracts now the AUD has fallen. Ranger Raptor has a Barra turbo. Territory still going strong with model updates and they are just releasing a midsize version of it with best ride/handling in class. Falcon did finish up in 2016, so they are importing the V8 Mustang for that market. In exciting news, FOA are about to import all the F Series Utes and we're getting the Lincoln Aviator.

Fewer cars sold = less imports imported = helps Aussie balance of trade so long as exports continue strongly

Overall sales down, but Why do we care about total new car sales anyway? they dont produce any jobs apart from salesman and transport companies. If around the same amount of cars are registered at any one time, Maintenance is done on whatever cars are around at any one time so no difference there.
I would rather we buy LESS cars as that money can hopefully be used on australian made goods instead of sent overseas.

On top of salesmen and transport companies there's every other person at a dealership, aftermarket accessory companies like tint, bullbars etc, finance and there's probably a lot more. Australia dont make cars now so no point in trying to make a stand it only hurts people in the industry

Apparently if Tesla published their numbers they'd make the top 10 - Model 3 is selling well.

You do see a lot of Hybrid Camrys as Taxis. In Sydney they are everywhere.

I'd say so - would be good to see the breakdown of the figures between private and fleet. In addition I do note that a new fleet of Camry's arrived in their corporate car park for staff, together with RAV4 they are the most popular cars in the carpark.

Actually take those away, and Holden may actually out perform Ford.

But Ford do seem to be working to a plan and have future models coming (far too slow IMO but its happening).

The future looks bleak for Holden. only re-badged Daewoos.

I agree here. If we still made cars here it would be nice to encourage buyers to buy a new Aussie car every 2 years. But now, may as well keep your car 5-6 years and spend the savings locally.

That's basically the monthly refrain of those praying for Ranger and Mustang sales to fall over just to be proven right...
My, how the mighty have fallen in what, two years?
Toyota is wiping the floor with both of them and it's a long way back....

The new Mustang model E has been spied in RHD but, I gather it's only for Europe.

Wife thought she might like a new car, I had a bit of a look at dealerships last Friday ( Toyota, Mazda, Hyundai), I then did a bit of online research.

Yesterday she picked up her new Cerato Sport Plus hatch, very good drive (suspension tuned in Australia), all the fruit and safety gear, 7 year warranty, capped price servicing price works out to average $400 a year but you have included roadside assistance.

About the same price as a base model Corolla.

2001 Camry sales is an achievement ,but most taxis ,ride share ,and private people doing cheaffeur work are going for Camrys.
Excellent value for money ,super reliable ,and new model is great to drive, looks fantastic, and has a wonderful, roomy interior and huge boot.

What’s not to like, happy not everyone is going for SUVs,long live the sedan.

Easy sales to Toyota and "fleet" doesn't mean that they're giving them away,
a case of fleets appreciating the value of Camry hybrid over other choices.

The other side of this is of course, retail buyers also appreciate the value of a
petrol hybrid car.

Agree as well. Maybe the money saved can be used to restore a nice example of a classic Aussie built car.
