Default Con artist ??? - RACV certified mechanic.

I believe I'm the victim of a con artist.

One of his claims is that he is an RACV certified mechanic. Does anyone know how I can check him out. I know his name but not his business name. He says he has a mobile van as well as operating out of his back yard workshop.

What has he conned you out of?

if you haven't already, start googling his name, checking facebook etc. That usually gets a fair bit of info.

Fill us in with some more details. He can claim all he wants, he probably has given you a fake name as well.

Has he taken a deposit to work on your car or promised to supply parts then vanished?

Try to google his number, had he a mobile mechanic business his number would be on any advertisements.

Can't say at this point what he has conned me with but it's not car related. He could be reading this.

It's just that ONE of his claims is the RACV certified thing, and I'm trying to do some detective work on him overall. I think he's a downright liar about so many things.

Trying to search his name or phone number or business and he's like a ghost, no search results anywhere. Unfortunately information from mobile phone numbers seems to be only available to government agencies.

I'll call RACV themselves and ask if they have any such person, or if they issue a certificate when.

RACV certified mechanic? The local RACV bloke we had a few years ago was an ex tiler with no auto qualifications

The industry isn't regulated, you don't need papers to be employed in the industry in these roles, you could probably just BS on your resume and there is no verification.

From what I can see there are NO RACV certified (or certifiable ... ) mechanics.
There are "approved" mechanics

The only thing Certified is their Service Centres only doing a quick search.

Reading the thread though ... not sure on what has been done at the moment for the "mechanic" to have conned you.

RACV is the same as NRMA in NSW. And NRMA in NSW stands for "No Real Mechanics Anyway"

Put his details in here https://abr.business.gov.au/
If you don’t have his ABN ask for it. If he’s doesn’t give it to you you have your answer.

In NSW at least, the “mobile mechanic” imprimatur was often a workaround for the certifying requirements of a fully fledged workshop. So long as you had a van or ute with tools, you could get away with having a commercial premises for storage or non-public jobs (eg, taking stuff away from the car to work on).

I believe I am also a victim of this guy. He drives a white van with no signage, and sells "Royal Audiophile Club of Victoria" certified, High-End speakers. Claims to have a back yard workshop full of these speakers if I wanted to buy more. Gave me his name and number.

His name is Constantine Bulashiathriartis. I think he maybe Greek, and his number is 04 2855 7448. Is this the same guy?

Thanks for all the input.

I used the ABR website and found his business/ABN. Can use that to check with RACV if they have any record of him on their books. Let's just say I know how to use that against him if it's a lie about him being approved by them.

I'm a RACV mechanic. There's no such thing as a certified RACV mechanics. I don't have any particular credentials above and beyond that make me RACV acccredited.

Called RACV and asked if they had any record of this guy/business/ABN. Nope.

The guy said it would be very unlikely for a back yard mechanic operating as a sole trader to be granted RACV approval. I was told their approved mechanics are normally fully equipped commercial workshops, and there is a rigorous approval process and yearly audits.

Anyway I gave all this feedback to a certain person that the conman in question has told otherwise.

Could he have said VACC instead of RACV?

VACC is the correct one, RACV is not really a thing as such
