Default Herrod Motorsport- Custom Tune for Mondeo

Herrod Motorsport in Victoria (103 Northgate Drive, Thomastown ) are looking for a couple XR5 Mondeos to run some tests.

SCT in the US have sent Rob Herrod a device to extract the ECU data and once they have this information back, then we (Mondeo XR5 owners ) can have some serious custom tunes available to us.

Given I live in Perth i'm not able to get into Herrods personally to be a donor so my plea goes out to all Melbourneites.

I have been talking to Rob Herrod for over a year re a tune for our cars and its looking closer and closer but I need your help. Once Rob has this tune any SCT dealer in Australia will be able to custom tune the Mondeo .

Can you help if so give Rob Herrod a call ??

Got a PM back from them over the weekend, they told me they would need my car on a weekday, could not (more likely didn’t want to) do it on a Saturday. So I said ok, I would make arrangements to get my car to them on a weekday. Asked them to give me a call on Monday and…….. nothing! Shame, as it turns out they could have had the car from tomorrow until next Monday as I’m traveling interstate over that period and I would have just got a cab from their place to the airport and left my car with them.
All that said, with the XR5 now being discontinued I doubt they are serious about doing anything with the Mondeo anyway.

That's a real shame. One lost opportunity for all of us but thanks for your efforts. I know Rob is finishing off the auto 6 speed calibration he has been working on for over 4 months now. He is so close to getting to us (Mondeo) that i trust its worth another try once you get back in town.

Anyways thanks again paulie0735.

Its been a while but I am now getting very excited with this news . I have a Bluefin installed now but looking forward to some serious power from Mr Herrod.

I hope we obtain so much power that a Quaife LSD is mandatory !!

Early ECU chip calibration from Europe. Mr Herrod can use this as a starting point maybe.

Hi Paul (Paulie0735) , Any further news yet re above. I hope for all us Mondeo modders that this time he has come through. If i lived in Melbourne I would be pushing hard for this. Do appreciate all your efforts and sincerely believe we will all benefit from being able to custom tune.

Any news on this?

Herrod's / Rob, is it possible for another SCT dealer to pull the files from the ECU for you, if you can't get someone local?

If so I can drop my car at my tuner (tunehouse) when it goes for a service and they might be able to help out?

Our normal sct tuning software does not allow for us to extract data from the ecu, I would expect Herrods, being the SCT australian distributors to have more advanced software which would allow a dump of ECU information.

Your absolutely right. SCT have given him a special device as you say to extract the data from the Mondeo . Then SCT USA will have a fiddle and hopefully at the end of it all ......we can alll have a custom tune.

Paulie0735 was donating his Mondeo to Rob Herrod but I have not yet heard anything since we last spoke a couple of weeks ago.

Good things come to those that wait.

So am I to assume the information is only for the XR5! I would have thought the core data is the same for all models then sight changes for the different models surely a turbo diesel should benefit from this y/n?

nah, every cars ecu table is different.

Even XR5 focus and XR5 mondeo are different, even though the ECU hardware itself and motor is exactly the same, the files differ.

Yours being a diesel is even further apart just by the nature of how they work.
IMO for a diesel an off the shelf flash tuner would suffice.

If anything happens here, only mondeo XR5 drivers will benefit.

Yep, LRsedan is correct.

What is actually required is the 'communication' code. Once they break through that they can download the factory tune and start exploring the factory fuel, spark and boost maps.

Rob is overseas at the moment, due back next Wednesday. I have arranged to drop my car off to him on Thursday and he can have it for a couple of weeks as I will be away.

I'm away again the 1st 2 weeks of Aug so hopefully they will be ready to do some tuning by than and he can have it for another 2 weeks than. If not I’m off again for 2 weeks in Oct, seems likely it will be ready to test by than at the latest.

Fingers crossed.

Car is now in the capable hands of Rob Herrod, he has it for as long as he needs it.

Days, weeks or months I don't really care, if it leads to a custom tuning option than its worth it. It’s got a full tank of Shell 98 and has the ECU spacer fitted so will be very interesting to see how it responds to a performance tune rather than the 'bowlers Sunday afternoon' tune we got from Volvo.

fingers crossed, I'll touch base later next week Rob but like I said its yours for as long as you need it.

Driving my SIL's SS with a gear box that feels like it came out of a tractor and a clutch that feels like it belongs in a truck, I'm sure the pain in my left leg will ease eventually and I swear you can watch the fuel gauge drop while its idling at the light ................. but it goes ok!

Had to pick the car up again last night. I'll drop it off again in Aug as I'm overseas again for 2 weeks so hopefully Rob can crack open the PCM than and we'll all benefit.

Have to say I'm so glad I didn't buy the Falcon or Commodore, having driven a manual SS everyday in traffic for 2 weeks it was a ‘bloody pleasure' to hop back in the XR5, clutch almost went through the floor when I pushed it in, I think my left leg is now twice as strong at it was before, and the gear box, well lets just say there is NO comparison.
