Had my interview today. Think it went pretty good. 31 showed up for at least 10 positions. Up to 20 could be hired from the group.
Hope to find out by end of week.

Hope you don't have much rain there. As soon as we have rain everyone races to get a C, and leave all the Fs parked up til last, they are hopeless in the wet, that's if thre not in the workshop broken, we've even gone to the point of doing 90day rebuilds on our older C models instead of getting new Fs cos the Fs we have are always down

Ours have auto or manual retarders, most auto retarders are pretty smooth, some are a bit on and off and lock up in the wet, but 99% of the time I leave it on auto, we run Hercules DT bodies too so when empty they ride pretty rough and bounce around but company wants as much payload as possible on every truck, one good thing is you can put 280 on them and they will leave C model behind with 230-250 on

when i left there few years back, town was right on its water allocation limit from artesian basin..
dont expect to much to happen without the desal... word was haulpacks would be assembled in the upper gulf and then trammed up to site cross country on their own haul road... this project will be effin huge, with massive amounts of money thrown at it... they know labour will be a huge problem.. expect it to be done in stages over many years.... something like three years alone just to get rid of the over burden and reach the ore body.. |

The plan they told us in the interview is to train up 10 or so of us in outbye for 6ish months then move us into a different area then bring in 10 more new guys. Hopefully the frequent influx of workers moves me on to a new area in no time.
Got my medical and tour date. Fingers crossed nothing stupid comes up and i get a contract sent to me in 2 weeks.

Havent read every post, just some random posts.
I've been involved with Underground Mining for 22 years now. Started out at the bottom and progressed up through the stages from there. I've been involved in Safety Training now for the last 7 years now as I wanted to stop being an operator and get involved around the management side of things. Got my Trainer/Assessor Cert IV, then studied and got my CERT IV in OHS, which is a really handy qualification to have. If you want to be in the mining game you have to look at it as a career IMO. Too many times I've met people who say " I'm just doing this for a couple of years to get some quick cash together, then I'm off to do a normal job"....... Yes, some do it for a couple of years then leave, but most get a taste of the $$$$$ and can't go back to a "normal wage"....... In regards to CV's, In my experience any applicant needs to ensure his/her resume is no more than 3 pages in length. Provide all your basic details, a current phone number, the latest jobs performed and referees - preferably with a recognised title. We really don't want to know your hobbies outside of work/your kids names/how youre happily married/your pets names etc. 99% of the time................ As there is currently a shortage of good experienced underground operators at the moment in WA, the site I am at are prepared to employ people from over East/NZ, if they are who we are looking for. (We currently employ approx. 8 people with this status, and we are still looking for a couple more Jumbo, Bogger Operators/Shift Bosses. Week on Week off Roster, good $$$) If you a "greenhorn" seeking work in WA, but you live in Vic/NSW etc. then, yes it is much harder to break into the mining game. If you can have a local address on a resume, then that will definitely help. And if you know someone in the game, of course that also definitely helps! I hope this does help a couple of people who are looking to break into the game. Post/PM me if I can answer any more questions you may have. Cheers Colin

I'm also looking to get into the mining game, but slightly different approach than being a rig operator.. Im looking at getting into the planning side of things, dealing with mine expansion, environmentally sustainable development, infrastructure etc
Could any of those in the industry assist in directing me? What are some promising mining sites ? somewhere near a major city or the water would be good |
