Default Engine help please

Hi, got a standard 2l four door 1980 escort ghia. I am having trouble between 2500 to 3000 revs. Fine before then when it hits there starts to feel like it's missing then if I drop back a gear and punch through its fine again. Does this under load and no load. Standard Webber carb, cam is as well as far as I know. Any ideas. Dizzy looks OK but to be on the safe side have ordered new rotor, points etc. any help appreciated.

I had one that did the same thing but wouldnt rev past 3500rpm, after about 4 mechanics I took it too an old school(RIP Harry)fella within about 5 minutes he diagnosed the dissy shaft had to much side ways play causing the points dwell angle to jump all over the place.
New dissy fixed it, so find some who has a dwell meter and see If the needle swings about wildly.

Hi. Other things to check in the dissy are the wire from the points to the coil and the earth wire on the breaker plate. Cheers MD
