Default Vale Bob Hawke

Bob Hawke; larrikin, scholar and successful Australian Prime Minister has died.

He was a great Australian who made a lasting contribution to this country.

RIP Bob Hawke

Not a political post, if you have nothing good to say on the topic perhaps don’t say anything …...

We all have a better standard of living due to his leadership. I haven't downed a beer that quick in a long time but only thought it was appropriate to smash a Hawke's lager tonight.

**** knows how he managed that yard glass

I especially liked Barry Cassidy's recollection of this story. Made me laugh thinking it sounds about right

Was lucky to last as long as he did, my Wife's Grandfather dragged him out of the Maitland dam and saved him from drowning when he was only a kid.

RIP Bob.

Can't disagree.
Another thing for thought.
Look how different Labour is today to back then.
No Hawke types would get within coooeeeeee of the party today and imagine the social media carnage.

At 89, he had a good trot. So yeah he had a reputation, but from something im not sure i believe due to radio shows back 15 years ago having call ups of if youve had a beer with a famous person and the disclaimer was dont call up if its bob, what i heard yesterday was apparently he didnt have a drink in his 9 years in the top job. If thats correct then thats impressive. I was only young at the tail end of his leadership so i have no political opinion. But, all i really have seen is afterwards and he seemed to come across well as yeah a character.

I think most politicians are now like that. Funny enough a little while back Hawke and Howard were saying that these politicians now have no real life experience and a career politicians.

Bob might win the election for Labour today. Sympathy...
I remember Granny May's (tricks and offensive toy shop) having a plastic moulded head of Bob.
To be filled with alcohol.

Completely wrong, John Curtain was our greatest Prime Minister, if he hadn't brought the 6th 7th and 9th divisions home from the middle east, which Churchill was against, we would probably be speaking Japanese today.

For a very smart hard working guy who was not an elitist snob who grasped policy issues deeply and was able to make seismic changes for the better in this country hard audience here.

So what if he liked a drink and had an eye for the ladies jeez.

It is a social convention when someone dies we take a few days off putting the slipper in to them.

I am astounded at the number of "keyboard warriors" in this thread that don't possess the maturity to observe that....

It is also John Howard's opinion.

Quote:
"Bob Hawke was an outstanding Australian prime minister. In my opinion, he's the greatest prime minister of Australia produced by the Labor Party...amongst Labor occupants of that office, Hawke was the best. He was responsible for a significant number of economic and other reforms during the time that he was prime minister" - Former prime minister John Howard remembering Bob Hawke who died last night, aged 89 years.
