What I would like would be the ability to de-activate my car by phone or the Internet in the event it was stolen.

probably will be available , and probably sooner than you think
if you can activate as stated above , it wouldnt be hard to incorporate a de-activation system
which would be marketed under the guise youve suggested but more so implemented for the use for enforcement agencies

Cashless - No cash or cards as you use NFC on Tap and Pay smartphone

Medicare card govt cards - Digital copies now available on your phone.

Drivers licence - Digital licence already trialing parts of Sydney and will be rolled out soon.

Opal Card - can use smartphone NFC to pay

Keys - Cars and homes locks and any key locks will be NFC locks opened by your smartphone.

Once the digital drivers licence is rolled out then i dont need to carry anything besides my smartphone when i go out.

The smartphone is one if the most amazing inventions to the human race, everyone needs to carry one.

For a male just taking your smartphone in your pocket is would be awesome, instead of a thick wallet full of cards and many keys.

If you lose your phone you can trace it and wipe all content remotely and install in a new phone or keep a spare smartphone at home.
What a great idea....................Until you're on a driving holiday and drop your phone rendering it useless.

You then have no money, no license, no car keys, no identification and of course no phone to call anyone to help

it's inevitable, but we should put in checks and balances for compliance on who can access it.

technology has give so much...the benefits outweigh the costs.

same thing you can lose or get your keys and wallet stolen

You can call the car company to open and allow your to start the car.

You can carry a second smartphone in the car or use your wife, mistress or kids smartphone to access.

Future cars will have fingerprint or biometric camera face reader to allow you in, even voice commands as backup.

which generally becomes implemented as per needed (and usually no more) as people implementing checks and balances these days wont go as far as thinking about the full need and just well lets close this hole

But I'd have one or the other and a phone to call for help.

Brilliant. You said that if everything is on your phone you wouldn't need to carry a wallet with all those cards, now you just need to buy and carry two phones!

If you're on your own how do you call for help, and they wont help unless you can prove you're the rightful owner...oh yeah the infomation is on your broken phone.

Maybe the future is no phone at all.

Microchip implanted for passport, medicare, Licence, ID, medical records and financial data.

Cop scans your hand or neck for Licence, scanned at Coles to buy milk.

Car opens as you walk up, starts once in.

Google glasses for Internet, porn and phone calls.

Security... Microchip in hand de-activated if crims chop off your hand or you die once electrical nerve impulses or blood supply no longer sensed by chip.

I can tell you not handling dirty cash and coins that have feces on them is alot better. haha

People complained about internet banking... atm cards, tap and go, nbn, etags, no rego stickers on cars...

it will happen and people wont think about the past.

Physical keys will be like CDS. to kids born in twenty years time

Has been available for some years now.

A couple of years ago, former Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Kel Glare was proposing that all new cars sold in Australia should have this system (with the ability to immobilise stolen vehicles in Police pursuits) fitted as standard equipment.

And, on topic:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-05-...-case/11129338

Absolutely stunning win for this bloke, total legend. Somewhat different from using one's own biometric data on one's own phone, but relevant to the storage of such by company or cloud platforms perhaps.

We own our biometric data, is what I get from this.

It’s an interesting case; I note the appellant’s expressed disappointment that it did not create a legal precedent. That is ominous.
[I’m far from alone in having some degree of curiosity about genetic/family links but for similar reasons as above (ownership of biometric data) would never use one of the genealogy-focused DNA analysis services.]
