MU AUII is having problems at the moment.
When I out my foot down it revs then it makes a stuttering sound. Like it wants to backfire. The car looses power. It sounds likes there is air trapped in there and then it surges on.
Is this possibly a vacume leak problem? I have no idea? Is it common?

I agree they have very noisy suspension especialy the front end when changing direction and in the beginning was inclined to look under car after we arrived somewhere to make sure a caliper hadn't come loose something else.
I've learnt to live with it because they run rings around any bombadore I've driven. Interior is very well built I've been in ones with higher kms 200,000 + not a single annoying rattle. You just get the occasional grone from door rubbers when you hit a few holes in the road.
Tyre wear is a ***** though who set the bloody camber on the things out of factory or did they have the "It'll be right mate attiitude?"

my au you 178.000 nothing spent the best falcon i have owned was going to be replaced at 100.000 but you cant kill the bugger no problems at all has been a great car and still is .It is my 7th falcon and the best my XT was another great car thats 1968 xt .

as far as I know, seeing i've only owned the car for a couple of months, is I developed a slight knocking noise in the rear right... took the girl up to a little over state speed limit and it disappeared.

other than that I think I have the warped rotor problem *severe shuddering and pulling to front left under brakes, heavier application results in smoother braking*

Have you got IRS? Check your shock mounts if you have, they're known to cause trouble.

Sometimes the boot opener in the car works, sometimes it doesn't.

Also repairs other LCD devices, and willing to have a look at ones he hasn't seen before (currently looking at Harley Davidson speedo LCD odometer)

No I'm not related to him, just giving good service a plug

Default TE50T3 glitches

Had the manual TE about 5 months, from 58k to 63.5k. So far it has needed an exhaust leak sealed (warranty), replace a split leather gear lever dust seal (about $60), alternator failed (warranty eventually thanks to a top dealer), water pump leaked and cracked heater/bypass hoses replaced (about $280), crankshaft position sensor wire pulled out (due to rough work when the water pump was replaced by a supposed FPV mechanic - not the car's fault but bloody dangerous having an engine cut in busy traffic $#%&*!! Cost about $80 to get a mobile sparky), driver's side door lock failed (warranty), a weird shrieking noise at open road speeds traced to the windscreen top rubber vibrating (!) and fixed by squelching sealant under it (warranty).
A couple of things I haven't worried too much about yet are 1: the boot lid lower edge rubs on the rear "bumper", 2: the front passenger window is sticky (but improving with liquid wax and silicone applications when I wash the car), and 3: I notice a fair bit of drive-line shunt and clunk around town but I'm learning to drive around this.
This is my third AU V8 and the most troublesome. The other two were utes. The AU1 ute was built tight as a drum in the body but had a very rattly engine eventually replaced under warranty. The AU2 XR8 ute warped its front discs slightly but otherwise was completely trouble-free. I did 90k in the AU1, 80K in the AU2. Good cars, good-looking I reckon and reliable in the main. Hope I can get the TE up to scratch too!

I'll second this. I live in Melbourne and actually travelled over to Ayhan's place to get my LCD fixed. He will take great care in fixing the 'missing segment' problem even when you have an AU1 orange display and Ford have gone to the trouble of super-glueing the whole unit shut.

For $50 plus $12 for two new globes it was certainly much more cost-effective than the $800 Ford want for a replacement or the $150 changeover option that other people are offering.

Highly recommended.

Default rough idle

Leaking inlet manifold results in rough idle. Spoke to my mechanic & he said it is very common & they tighten them on Au's every service

Other than that the slow power front windows which silcone spray fixes. Have had the AU2 for 13,000 kms now & at 92,000km & 800km per week will soon see how it stands up. So far so good : : :

I have just purchased a 2001 AU2 Xr8 pursuit ute and i have only had it for three weeks and sometines it doesn't start- It will crank over okay but it will not fire up- and it idle's like a pig on occasion. It has done 61000km's-
Does anyone else have this problem and/or any idead on what it could be caused by?

2000 model Au2,i had to put a new radiator in as the plastic end tanks were leaking,i replaced it with a series 1 copper radiator.
-Had the central locking module on both rear doors fail in the unlock position (1 under warranty) and 1 just recently.
-Had to fit a new coil pack as the coil for number 5 cylinder burnt out.
-Fitted a new battery as the old one died
-Have had the front window probs on both sides where it goes up extremely slow but they are both working good at the moment.
-Oh ive also got to replace the globe which shows you what gear you are in (auto tranny).Anyone know if you have to trake the whole centre console out to get to it?
Thats been about it for me.

Ive had the same start problem with the 220 It's to much fuel im told.You have to hold the accelerator down to cut out the injetors then it will start.FORD said this was a common prob with the "T" series motors? :alien2:

Has anyone else had head problems? I have an AU Series ll dedicated gas ute and done only 70,000 k's. Just taken it in for her log book service and all 6 spark plugs are coroded just about beyond recognition. Had taken her in 6 mths prior and had very similar problems to other person with all the little problems which amount to nearly $800. Just had head replaced, valves done, leads, plugs, gaskets etc etc. wots the go, is it just dedicated gas vehicles that have these delimmas or wot? could somebody please get back to me.

I have owned a au 99 xr6 since brand new, this car has been a great car except for a few teething problems put it into ford for a service at 30.000 ks they replaced the gearbox, also needed a new petrol filter it came off on our way to Queensland.

I have driven this car to Melbourne and the Gold Coast with just my son and I and it never missed a beat I am very happy with my au

Damn I have an AUII dedicated EGAS ute ... and it has done 130,000km without missing a beat.

I replace my spark plugs with Iridium IXs for the gas .. the old NGK Rs were shot ... and cracking ... the Iridiums last longer and give better spark for the LPG models.

I just replace me leads as well ... but i know that spark plugs on LPG engines do not last long at all ... I am only expecting about 30,000km out of mine ... if i get more ... I'll be happy.

How many km's per year do you do???? What type of driving do you do as well???

Other than that ... I have replaced the hose out the back of the power steering reservoir (because it leaked all over the alternator and killed it) ... so i have a reconditioned alternator in there now too.

Will be replacing suspension soon ... but will get a Susoension check as well as there are a few rumbles/thuds/rattles from underneath it on semi-rough roads.

Having problems filling up petrol. The petrol nozzel just keeps clicking. takes ages to fill up. Tries different servo's and that doesn't seem to do anything. Confused. Also put in a new air pod. To me it seems that it has made it a bit sluggish or is it just me getting use to the power of the car.

make sure the pod is in a airbox or it will be a waste of time, too much hot air in the engine bay.

i own a 98 au wagon it has 157,000ks the only problem i have had was with the starter motor got the bushes fixed. 3 weeks after being fixed played up again took the car back found out the auto electrican did not fully check it out result brand new starter no cost to me
