Default Ford Focus Coupe-Convertible

Ford Focus Coupe-Convertible confirmed for Oz
Jez Spinks, drive.com.au, 26/10/06

The small-car hardtop convertible war will hot up in 2007 when Ford takes on Peugeot’s 307 CC and Volkswagen’s Eos, writes JEZ SPINKS.

Ford will next year have a convertible in its local line-up for the first time since the soft-top Capri of the ’90s.
The all-new Focus Coupe-Cabriolet was paraded on the Ford stand at the Sydney motor show today, and the local car maker confirmed the small drop-top will arrive here in the second half of 2007.

Ford’s four-seater convertible will be a rival for Peugeot’s 307 CC, which launched here in 2004, and Volkswagen’s Eos and Holden's Astra TwinTop, which also launched at the Sydney show today.

A two-section electro-hydraulic folding hardtop opens or closes at the touch of a button in 29 seconds, and Ford claims the car remains respectably practical whether the roof is up (534 litres) or down (248 litres).

The Focus Coupe-Cabriolet was co-designed by Ford of Europe and renowned Italian design house Pininfarina.
While the car is clearly identifiable as a Focus from the front end, despite a slightly different front bumper, the rear end is radically changed with unique tail-lights and a chrome strip running across the boot lid.

Front and side airbags will be included as standard, while if the car’s electronics detect an imminent rollover, two roll-bars shoot out to help protect the car’s occupants.

“The Focus Coupe-Cabriolet is a fun, stylish and sophisticated model that will join the outstanding Focus XR5 Turbo as a natural and exciting extension of the Focus brand,” said Tom Gorman, the president of Ford Australia.

“The car will introduce Focus to a whole new group of customers, specifically those who desire a sexy, smooth drop-top tourer.”

Specifications, prices, and on-sale date will only be released closer to the car’s local launch next year, but Ford confirmed that the car will be offered with both manual and automatic transmissions.

In Europe, the Focus Coupe-Cabriolet is being offered with three engines: 74kW 1.6-litre petrol; 107kW 2.0-litre petrol; and a 100kW 2.0-litre diesel. The 2.0-litre petrol is almost certain to be made available in Australia.

Haha relax, I owned a Focus for years, it was a great car and I miss it.

I pay out of my own money to run Eurofordclub.com so I am only having a bit of fun!

I gotta say, I love convertibles. Had an early MX-5 for years and it was great fun.

Drove a V12 convertible Jag for a week in Perth once. It was awesome. Everyone looked at me as though I was a drug dealer (I was only 22, wearing jeans and a T shirt with music turned up waaaay too loud)

Now, bring out an XR5 convertible, THEN you're talking!

LOL...I say all of the above!

But hey, good on FoA for bringing it here! Didn't think they would have the balls to do it. I must say I fell in love with the concept, the production model does nothing for me though.

Just screams hair dressers car to me.

It doesnt rock the boat for most enthusiasts but it IS a car Ford need in their lineup. Lots of people will be interested, but Ford will need to have enough stock... people WILL NOT wait for this like they will XR5.

I may consider one for my wife. I like the Focus, always rent one when I am in the UK. It wouldnt be considerd a "girly" car in Europe but Aus is not the same market. I will stick to my XR Falcon I think but I dont consider the Focus XR5 "girly".

What's even more funny about this thread is even without my riggi... er, initial poll results, Zetec would still be winning the poll as the most appropriate club member to be donning a blond wig and cruising in his/her Focus Cabrio.
