2 weeks of attempts and mower #3. The jungle next door finally got mown. Albeit mown high. Im going to take a punt and say the bloke who did it wasnt a profesional, just because a profesional you'd like to think would have reliable equipment. It will be interesting to see what measures will have to be taken to extract the 2 rotted out cars in the yard. The side passage which would have been used to get them in was blocked years ago by a shed.

Yesterday managed to get down to my place, tidy up any fallen branches, push mow the whole acre and get back before the re-lockdown.

Was a bit worried about how long the grass would be after 4 weeks absence but was only 3 inches high. Nice seeing the front Grevillea's (Billy, Dusty and Frank), Callistemons and Wattles all in full bloom. At least the neighbours get to see them.

The Kawasaki V-Twin on those are a great motor, 726cc and 23.5 hp should serve you well.

build up some good arm muscles pushing those handles all day. my wife has an ab trainer looks kinda similar.

where is the blue tooth connection and how do you steer the stupid thing?

Speaking of beverage holders, I once had a Victa Razor that came with a drink bottle holder. Was a great feature to have for when mowing in the summer months.

I tried it yesterday for the first time. Not much grass to cut thou. Washed it and put at back in the shed. That will probably be it's first and last wash.......

Mowed my neighbors lawn this afternoon. Having been housebound for a few years now, I have been helping where I can as well as keeping the yard tidy for her. We have a chat in the process, she talks and I listen, I talk and she listens. She was taken into hospital yesterday so I thought I would at least make it look someone is home.

Really enjoying this mower. Having never been a Honda fanboy, I absolutely love this engine. I never bought into the hype surrounding the GXV160, but it has impressed me with it's power, refinement and fuel economy. I also love the really heavy duty gearbox on this thing. Other self-propelled mowers I have had have all been belt driven, this one has a drive-shaft. This machine has now payed for itself six times since I bought it late last year.

After years of service I turn over my Honda mowers after the bases give up. Never had an engine problem (touch wood), oil, plug, filter and clean fuel they start first time, every time for years!

I still love my two stroke Victas, have four in various states of running, but always one running! Never purchased a new one. I think my total spend on mowers is about $300!

However, I have decided to splash out on a brand new Honda powered Supaswift Big Bob for the heavier work. I used to push one of these as a kid and never forgot them.

2 strokes have a part in Australia's history, from Mowers to motorcycles, back in Sydney on the farm (5 acres ) my Kiwi mate Duncan lived on the front half of it on a half acre, he was a vintage Victa Mower tragic, he was also a builder and cabinetmaker extroinaire, must of had a dozen Victas and I was the one to fix em, he knew nothing about mechanics but the basics!

He turns up one day with a big orange Victa 500 twin cylinder, and guess what, it dident work?
I just looked at him, he looked at me and we both laughed, I said do you wanna beer? He said I brought you a carton to start with, I laughed and said does it turn over and he said " I'll go get the carton "

We got it going and it was a beauty, and he also had a series one Victa, but I always thought it was put together to make a series 1.

I remember reading Magda Szubanski's memoir where she described Saturday mornings in the suburbs were a blue haze of smoke as everyone got their Victa's out to mow the lawns.

Those twin-cylinder Victa's were mean bastards! Never seen one in person, apparently the fuel use was atrocious!

I have four Victa Two strokers too!

I'm also a big fan of Utility mowers, nearly bought a Big Bob a few years ago, they would be excellent with the Honda on them.

I actually went with this Masport over the Big Bob at the time as it had a bigger engine on it. Not much would stop that thing. I even dropped it off the back of my ute and it survived!

Traded the Masport in on the last of the Two Stroke Victa Utilities.

She is real good at smashing down feral weed growth! Although she will finish down nicely on better maintained lawns too.

The ultimate Utility is the Mulchmaster. Self-propelled and has the ability to mulch or side throw. Love it!

I bought a Big Bob with a Briggs,engine is still in the shed in good running cond,but the original blue body lasted about 4-5 years then rotted away,bought a new red body for it and it lasted not much longer,then fell to bits too.Bodies then got too dear ( about $150) to consider buying a 3rd one.

Victa still make the Mastercut, although as you say, not in two-stroke.

They are a 18 inch cut with two blade oval disk and steel deck. The two-stroke model had the lower powered version of the Victa engine, around 5 hp instead of 6hp.

Ive never seen a utility style mower in the wild, whats the advantage of having one? is it mainly for slashing, or lighter than a traditional mower?

I use the utility mower for when I don't need to use a catcher, saving time, or when ultimate finish quality is not needed. These mowers side discharge so don't spray you with grass and debris like a mower with the rear flat propped ajar.

For example, you might use a utility to cut down weedy grass on a large property where a rider wont get. Or perhaps slashing an overgrown nature strip. Councils also use them on roundabouts or public grounds.

That said, I use the Mastercut on my own lawn from time to time.

The little Victa is also extremely light and super maneuverable.
