Default Timing and rotor button poition

Hey all I am trying to find out what position the leads plug into the dizzy cap on a old 4.1 crossflow. When I set the timing gun on lead 1 I could not see the timing mark. I put the timing gun on lead 2 and it was visible. Car runs rough as hell. I know the firing order. Just dont know where number 1 lead goes so I can follow with the rest in order 153624. Cortina 4.1l
