Default Mondeo Stereo: What are our Options and Experiences replacing headunits

Hi Guys

There has been a number of threads talking about the Mondeo Stereo.
A few people (including myself) have pointed out after market stereos that are meant to fit directly into the Mondeo.

I have gone through the past 10 pages of threads and whilst there is lots of general stereo related information, it is somewhat lacking if your aim is to replace the standard head unit. No one has really posted actual experiences with replacing it.

Hoping that this will prompt anyone who has done any work on the audio system on the Mondeo to talk up.

For what it is worth, here is a quick summary of the threads I found (not saying I found them all).

http://fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11231689 Review camera

http://fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11230674 Ebay link for Mondeo Stereo

http://fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11229227 Stereo functions

http://fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11218789 Stereo issues
http://fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11218156 More Issues

My desire is to replace the existing head unit with a built in unit which does GPS but does not loose the stearing wheel controls or the factory bluetooth.
Nice to have is camera, dvd, tv.

Looking forward to someone helping out!

I think we can do this... If so Im doing it next year when I return from OS and have the money.

LV focus and mondeo share the the same radio, so it should be a go'er. Possibly loose some of the nice stereo related HMI screen stuff, but I can live with that if the steering controls still work.

^^The facia kit for the focus MK2 sony stereo is the same as the mondeo MKIV, so part numbers are correct for the facia.

Only "up in the air" part is if the steering controls use the same interface as the focus?

Also I know Drew at Northfield car stereo in QLD has done an eclipse headunit into a MA Mondeo, so he should be able to provide info if you give him a call.

Thanks LR
A great post I wasn't aware of.
The person has done a great job on the install and with all due respect, I am just not a fan of the light grey of the dash versus the dark grey of the head unit. Just personal preference I guess and could be solved using a different head unit.

This head unit caught my eye on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/6-2-Car-DVD-H...d=p3286.c0.m14) but still has all the associated issues with dealing with an overseas person.

But I am tempted to take the risk and see how it goes. But if I did it, I would go the reverse camera and the DTV. Anyone know where the antenna goes?

Have a look on the European forum here: http://www.fordmondeo.org/forum/showforum.php?fid/238/

There would be more threads to look at and someone over there would have been something similar.

I'm not sure if the DTV will work here as our system may not be the same,no I'm sure it will not be the same

Hi, I have just sent an email off to Zenec, they appear to have a model (ZE NC-3810)for Mondeo head unit, that looks good. www.zenec.com. May be if the ducks line up we may try to get some interest in them and cut the cost down, wishful thinking I know but hey. Cheers
