Default Park rear & light staying on after car is locked

Hi there,
in the past week or so my Mondeo 's park & rear light has been staying on after I have locked the car. Sometimes it comes on about 20 mins after the car has been locked and neighbors have come around to tell me they think I have left my lights on!

I understand that the Mondeo has a feature where if you put the indicator on once the engine is off and key is out of ignition, then this will activate these lights down the side of the car corresponding to the indicator.

However, this is happening to me even without me putting the indicator on.

I have also noticed that when I come back to the car and put my key in the ignition, the LEFT indicator is ON - despite me ensuring the indicator is not in the left position when exiting the vehicle.

This happens regardless of whether the headlights are on AUTO on/off, or not.

Has anyone had this problem before?
- I have googled it, but there is nothing out there - could it be a relay switch failing? If so - which one?

Anything else anyone can suggest, save taking it to an auto electrician?

Thank in advance!
