I already have a motorcraft one on its way, as I had also read many negative comments about dorman.

Tool is not needed. Before you remove the old, take the black cover off, set you crank to TDC on the compression stroke - you will see that the tab on the sync will be exactly mid point in the gap - insert your new sync in the exact same position. It will make sense when you do it.

Stu

It's not hard to install it without the tool... I have a lumpy exhaust note and a tap at the same time and my synchronizer just started to chirp really badly so I have a Standard Motor Products one on the way for arrival Monday.

Does the cam sync. affect the oil pumping through the motor? (If it does... could it be still turning but not effectively pushing oil up to some parts of the head?) - I have a problem with noise when warm and around valvetrain on cylinder 3. (Everything was replaced - lifters, pushrods, rockers, valve springs, retainers - valves were reused.)

I'd not recommend Taiwanese 'Standard' brand to anyone. Mine last less than 12 months and a P250 owner had one do the same thing but eventually it sheared off it's pin and stop turning the oil pump.

Either get your Motorcraft one rebuilt by a distributor reconditioner, or get Motorcraft. The GhostAuto ones look great and I'm sure the seller is very confident in his product, but I personally don't see any reason to get away from Motorcraft.

The Ghost product is currently listed under the title, 'AU XR8 AU1 AU2 AU3 5LT 5.6LT Camshaft Synchronizer Tickford fpv TE 50 TS50'. At $330 I personally would want to know it was good for 200,000k's+
