Default Ford Fiesta Compliance plate missing

Hi,

I was looking at a second hand 2010 WS Fiesta Zetec, but it has no compliance plate and the owner was unaware it didn't have one. I spoke to the Ford dealer and they have never heard of a car not having one.... Its a two door and I think it should be located on the B pillar. (According to my mechanic, the VIN number on the car has never been stolen or written off)

As a result it needs an ID check before the registration can be changed over but is this an issue?

Would it stop you from buying the car if the ID check is ok?

I'm a little confused as to why it doesn't have one.

I think it has one, perhaps just not in the expected locations?

Where did Ford say it should be?

Try around the floor area on the drivers side.

Ford said it should be on the B Pillar. There is no sign of one there and I couldn't see it in the engine or other parts of the car, inside doors etc but didn't move carpet.

The compliance "plate" is basically a plastic laminate stuck to the B pillar.
You should have a build plate on the drivers side, and a compliance plate on the passenger side.
It won't look like a traditional plate, looks just like a sticker.

The most likely explanation for it missing is that the car has been damaged in that area and repaired.
Not written-off, just damaged.

And yeah, either way, avoid like the plague. Whatever the problem is, don't make it your problem. Plenty of other used cars out there.

if its been crashed and repaired it may have been removed and painted over, there are no problems buying a car without a plate at all, as long as its had a rego history in any state its fine. i've had heaps of car without plates the last being my AU3 XR8.
plates can never be re-attached too

...maybe near the door hinges.

My Focus one is in the back, right-hand passenger door.

Thanks for all the comment. The plates are no where to be found, so I can only assume it has had some repair work at some stage.

Thanks.

I think that last comment is a rather tortuous interpretation of the law. Yes its illegal for anyone other than the manufacturer to "place" a compliance plate. Not sure if that really covers repairs.

But anyway, my point is mostly around the repairs. If a 3-door has had repairs to the B pillar, its possibly be t-boned. At a very minimum, I would be going over it carefully, and with a magnet. Personally, I just wouldn't bother.

Doing a check on a possible trade in one day and the compliance plate was in the boot! Might have been a Fiesta but it was a few years back and memory hazy.

Year's different, but perhaps not an uncommon repair.
