Default Squeaks n Rattles

Guys,

I'm not sure about your focus but my 07 Zetec has started to get the rattles and squeaks to the point that I need to have the stereo on otherwise it sh**s me. Suspect parts include:

- Loose Rear Door Trim
- Loose Boot Panel
- Squeaking front seat
- Dashboard on left handside close to the window.

So I am asking is anyone in the same boat? With the Dash and seat?? If so what have you done about it? Has it worked?

Lastly, someone put up on the forum, a link to spedefastners a supplier of those scrivets but the link or the site is now down. Can anyone recommend another supplier (also the details of these scrivets) as I don't like the thought of paying ford's exhorbitant prices.

Cheers
B

By scrivets are you talking about the small ones, such as hold your radiator shroud on? See picture... If so, you can get them at auto stores like Supercheap etc.

Be very careful playing with the seat as it is wired for side airbags.

A lot of rattles and squeaks on door trims can be fixed. If at all possible have someone else drive your car, sit in the seat nearest the rattling / squeaking door trim and either press on it or gently pull on it at different positions on the trim and see if the noise stops. If it does, buy a roll of the foam door weather seal strip (usually grey in colour and comes in different widths and thicknesses) you can get it from hardware stores, it has double sided adhesive tape on one side. If you can, carefully remove the door trim and apply a layer of the foam, or several layers if needed, to the position where pulling or pushing on the trim stopped the noise. Once you have applied the layer/s of foam refit the door trim and hopefully the rattle will be gone. Sometimes you can even get away with gently poking some of the foam under the edge of the trim without having to remove it from the door. I had a squeak in the passengers door on my LV and managed to fix it with a bit of foam by poking it in under the top edge of the trim where it meets the glass, it didn't take much to stop it

Thanks Guys,

I'm off to Supercheap for the scrivets to commence operation focus quiet. I didn't even think of Supercheap.

RUSS, good idea - I will give it a crack if the scrivet replacement exercise doesn't work.

I'm going to leave the seats and dash till next week. it allows me to research a little more to find out if there are any usual suspects.

OMFG!!!! I have the rattle near the glove box/top of door trim and I nearly hit a parked car addressing it.

In hind site, perhaps I should have pulled over, but it was the furst time I actually worked out where the bastard was coming from!

All I am envisioning is that poor ***** who pulled his commodore a part, only to realise it was a pair of his wife's earings in the ash tray.

Damn I hate rattles.

My LV seat is creaking/cracking, dash is making a loud clicking noise on gear change and I've got a loud rattle coming from the passenger A pillar.

I just blast out the stereo, problem solved LOL.

I think some of you guys must be larger than average...

I'm around 70kg and have never had a problem with seat squeaks, not even in the four Falcons I've had, three of which were getting on for 20 years old when I offloaded them.

OK had a break through today!

I have an XR5 cabin light cluster I got from the UK.

I SWEAR THE RATTLES COME FROM THE CENTRE CONSOLE.
MY WIFE WEARS THEY COME FROM THE DASH.

Both wrong. Its was the fricken light. Hold it firm, and no noise in the cabin.
Fixed it with some cloth tape inside it.

I now have a whisper silent interior again! Yaaaaaaaaaay.

Why is it that anything the wife says always seems to relate to clothing
