I've never really had rum before, except for Bundy red premix cans, which my mate gave one to me to try the other night.

Is there any other rum that doesn't have that "burnt" taste and is smooth that comes in pre mix? Or is that just rum in general?

First things first, Bundy premixes suck the big one. If by burnt you mean 'charred' then that's an American bourbon style thing, but if I'm wrong someone will likely correct me. Bundaberg rum is aged in 60,000L+ American white oak vats. Bacardi does use old American bourbon barrels which have been charred in a previous life. If you're after 'smooth' rum, then Bundaberg Select Vat 207/315 is your best bet, but outside of Australia I've found Mt.Gay Eclipse is very smooth, and moving towards the top shelf, any Ron Zacapa is the pinnacle.

Your collection is looking good. You must have put together quite a collection by now.

It's getting there. I'm moving shortly so the collection is out, it not all of my bottles because I don't have the time or the enthusiasm to do the lot.

I finished cataloguing the bottles into a Excel spreadsheet this afternoon, final count came to 147 bottles. Moments after I had finished doing that a bottle of Watermark was giving me the stink eye, so I cracked its neck ;)

Do you ever feel a bit guilty drinking a collectable? Do you insure your collection? If so how?

Never, drinking is what they are for. I did though feel guilty when I cracked one of my numbered Reserves thinking it was just a regular Reserve. The was a $300 mistake I won't make again. I'll be photographing and cataloging my collection in the coming weeks and having it specifically listed on the home insurance policy.

But, back to the subject matter and the reason for my visit this morning.

This big boy is on its way >>>>

Mid-year is the best guess, Bundy will be using the same 4.5L bottles and cradles Johnnie Walker use.

Nice older bottle, not quite the standard of the 1961 bottles with the old cork lids, but still a good looker. Prior to 1974 because it's in fl oz, some came with a little polar bear around the neck of the bottle. Younghusband was the bottling agent, I don't know a lot about them but there are a few different agents that bottled Bundy over the years.

Thanks for the information mate. Unfortunately it's not mine to sell, they're just looking to learn a bit more about it.

Cheers. (can't reply to pm due to post limit)

I made up my own concoction recently, put some white rum in a 5L barrel for 3 months and got some pleasing results.

Just finished off cleaning out my local of Reserves, hopefully it goes off like distillers number 3. They are already going for $150 on ebay.

Now to concentrate on the Master Distillers.

You have to be daft to pay $150 for reserve, $60 max. Prices on D3 should really be coming down in the near future now that it is being re-release shortly.

I've been collecting it on and off for years.

I have every year of the Bundy Black.
All the bottles of the rugby union captains
4 consecutively numbered bottles Darren Lockyer
The gift boxed 8 year old
a few of those fancy square bottles that I've seen plenty of pics of in this topic
a very old 750ml with the dimpled bottle
a 750ml bottle
have a bit of the merchandise as well

That's a pretty sweet collection. Does your Black set include the '87 Italian? Do you have any pics of your 750ml bottles?

I picked up a couple of Bundaberg Overproof bottles, fresh from there 15 year Italian vacation.

Just on the topic of premixes, Bundy have teamed up with Bundaberg Brewed Drinks with an awesome dark and stormy. They also have one with sars mixed with Bundy red.

They are freakin awesome.

If there is one bottle of Bundy Rum that you try, make it this one -

Before (and after) it was dis-continued in 2009 it was undoubtedly the best rum on the market. It will be making a return in a limited run in only a few weeks.
