Default WS Fiesta 4spd auto problems

Hi all,

Just helping a friend with a WS Fiesta Zetec (1.4L) with the 4spd auto.

It is incredibly hard to shift the car from park to drive, reverse etc. Requiring two hands to pull on the lever. I have tried searching online and havent found a thing. Was hoping to find a guide or info on how to fix it and Ive had no luck. Was wondering if anyone here might be able to help.

Is the interlock disengaging properly when pressing the button on the lever? Should be a definite relay sound from under the dash, and won't disengage without the key on and foot on brake.
