Yes 175kw for the all AU Fairmont Ghia 5.0's is correct :(
Hence the reason ours is coming out to be replaced by a 220kw XR8 engine.

has marking on rocker cover of a hand built tickford badge, also has tickford badges all over, tickford dash and engine cover

has cast heads also

what is the best way to determine wether its a

What you have there is a 200 motor. Utes never came with the 220 and the 185's never got the hand built plaque.

But it's in an AU XLs ute, not an XR8, you sure it will be a 200kw, I think it would be a 185kw, previous owner might have had a play , maybe???.

Man has point, a very good point. I never read that it was an XLS.

Got any pics of the engine bay? What colour injectors has it got?

Does the S1 AU Fairlanes have blue top injectors as standard? I have them on mine so would they make any difference if they arent the standard ones?

Firstly "blue top" is usually used to describe the older style EV1 injectors. AU's use the EV6 injectors, and the plastic body of the injector is all the same colour (not just the top). Just because they are blue does not necessarily mean they are 24lbs e.g. the 39lb SVT Cobra injectors are also blue. You really need to check the part number on the injector to know what spec it is.

The AU series 1 V8's did come with either orange 19lb injectors or blue 24lb injectors, though there does not appear to be any pattern to what they ended up in. I have heard of XR8s with the orange 19lb'ers, and Fairmonts with 24lb'ers.

It would seem as though there was just some old stock left, so injectors on series 1 AU V8's are just luck of the draw...

I called 13FORD last Friday 15/5/09 and was told by the lovely lady that there were some issues with the computers and was repeatedly put on hold with my questions. When the computers finally came back online I was advised that I have a 6 litre (yes I asked 3 times) 185KW engine... So I ask the question again, I have a NOV 01 AU11 optioned AU111 UTE with a signature rocker cover, a 70mm throttle body(NO engraved wings), cast iron heads and a 3.5 inch hose after the airbox (all measured)... And Im original owner who hasnt tampered with the car... Wonder why ford told me ive got a 185KW signatured "6litre" engine.....

June 01 is a little early for a 220 and the only factory 70mm AU TB had the wings on it, the others were a 65mm unit.

Throw up a pic of the engine and we'll confirm it. No factory Ford ford T/B was 70mm if it didnt have the wings on it. But it may have been aftermarket.

As Austin has said, the easiest way to check is to call Ford. The t/b and badges can be put onto any car.
Also the 220kw motor got an engine oil cooler and runs the smaller oil filter, as where the 200kw motor doesnt have the cooler and runs the standard Ford oil filter.
What is the size of these Oil coolers ?? Also do the Automatics have trans coolers ?? Would TRIPAC be the supplier of these Oil coolers... Are oil coolers situated behind the Grille (in front of radiator) or by the oil filter to which Ive read is why they run the smaller oil filter ??

Hi all
I have just changed the engine in my 99 fairlane ghia, which had the blue injectors, and the new engine has the orange injectors (out of a fairmont ghia). Other than that, they look exactly the same.
Is there any real bennefit from changing over to the blue injectors as in the post above, to the 5lb bigger option? The car is also on LPG.
I have also been reading about the 175/185kw topic and am wondering if i had a 185kw, and now have a 175kw?
Thanks for any advice

If someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand the 185kw motor was the same as the 175kw but had a revised exhaust system/different headers. As far as the injectors go, the 19lb ones should be fine if you're leaving it stock/usual mods, if you were putting down 250kw or more at the fly then you might have to change them but otherwise I wouldn't worry.

I guess the computer was changed with the engine then?

No benefit at all, the 19lb should be enough to support even mild mods; exhaust, tune etc..

What the other guys have said is spot on.

Thanks guys
No at this stage i have not changed the computor. I am just about to give it a start up tomorrow night all going well. the new motor came with its own loom, so i have just plugged it in. Why would i need to change the computor, would they not be the same?
It is also a stock engine, used as a daily driver, i have the XB for fun, although that one has been my daily for the last 4 weeks.
Regards
Brad

So what is the difference between the series 2 200kw abd 220kw motor? What is involved to produce the extra 20kw?
Would it put most people off buying a 200kw S2 rather than a 220kw S2?
Surely an exhaust and few mods would see you past 220kw anyhow.

looking for a better cruising gear ratio.
need to know if there is a 3.08 lsd centre in any model that will fit the persuit 250 diff. and is it as strong as the stock 3.45 lsd that they already have?
would this also fit a Te50 T3?

wondering on the mileage vs reliability on the AU's v8's...i'm soon going to a new car, thought about going to b-series...but i do like the AU.

I know the Au's I6 is rock solid & run forever...but i have no personal experience with the 8's. are they as reliable going into the big kms?
the I6 is good, just a bit sluggish now i have got used to it's power...a bit more would be nice

i'm finding a new car primarily to gain a manual tranny, i'm sick of the Auto

sorry if this is not in the right section...thanks in advance

Usual story, if service/maintainance is kept up and car not thrashed then it should be trouble free motoring. The windsor V8 has been around for so long because it is that reliable.

They've got better flowing heads and a few bits and bobs.

Some of the very first ones had pretty trick alloy ones I think, then they started making 'em out of steel, which added a bit more weight, but performance was the same.

Yeah you can get past 220 no probs with an exhaust and stuff, but do the same mods to the 220 and you'll always be at least 20kw, if not more, ahead.

The average punter may not care much about the difference but anyone who's into modding cars would want the 220 - it revs a bit smoother etc...

I have recently purchased a 1999 AU Fairlane Ghia. 135,000km, 5L Windsor, LPG. I am considering putting an exhaust on it. Have read in this thread that a gain of around 10kw can be achieved via a twin exhaust. Is a twin the way to go or could I get a similar result from a larger single?
