Unhappy Professional Driver Killed at Queensland Raceway.

A PROFESSIONAL male driver sitting in the passenger seat of a car being driven around the Queensland Raceway near Ipswich has died after the car hit a wall and burst into flames.

The passenger, 26, is believed to have been killed on impact at the track at Willowbank.

The 20-year-old Brisbane man driving the car was pinned in the wreckage from the waist down for three hours after the crash at 11.30am.

He was to be airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital after 2.30pm in a stable condition.

The track had been hired for a private event and the car was a private vehicle.

Inspector David Preston said the 20-year-old's family, who were trackside at the time of the accident, were distraught.

Earlier, it was reported one man was dead and another trapped with horrific burns after the fiery crash.

Police said the dead man was a passenger in the car, which crashed at the Queensland Raceway at Willowbank, near Ipswich, about 11.30am today.

Emergency crews were still trying to free the injured driver, the Department of Community Safety said.

According to the raceway's website, the track was being used by a company that offers rides in a green and black Porsche.

condolences to his family...

If you hit something just right, the best caging won't protect you...look at Peter Brock.
The front of that thing looks crushed almost beyond recognition, so it hit pretty damn hard and any bladder would have burst in an impact of that magnitude.

Damn shame, the poor guy was looking forward to a couple of fun days in Australia before going home. Very sad.

Very sad. He's leading the Porsche Supercup standings with one round to go.

Any news on the driver?

I'm no expert but looks like brake failure or some sort of other failure, The car has gone dead straight ahead at the end of the last straight at the last turn. There is no sign of it even turning or braking given that it hit so hard and dead straight on at the end of the straight. Hope he recovers as best he can but it will be something he lives with for the rest of his life, RIP Sean and condolences to your family

Gee... Shocking tragedy....
Ironic that Sean's F1 father (Guy Edwards) was the hero who stopped his car mid race to drag Nikki Lauda out of his burning crash....
I also just read that Sean actually played his Dad in the new movie RUSH.
RIP... And best wishes to Will H

The guy killed in this incident was Sean Edwards.

Just stumbled on this video which shows the immense talent he had.
