Just got back from the V8Owners day at WSID.
I am pretty happy, my best run of the day was quicker than expected. I'll post more details in the Drag Racing Forum in a couple of hours, but here is the best bit; 14.544sec @ 95.02 mph (2.170 60ft).

$~1300 covers Crane 2030 cam, springs, YT RR's, plus gaskets timing chain bits and pieces etc... (installed myself)
$8 Airbox mod for more air. It was an awesome day, got 22 runs in all up. I've never drag raced before so it was a good way to settle in. The adrenalin was pumping so hard while I was stageing for my first run, LOL. Car still has stock exhaust, is untuned, and runs a Ryco paper air filter ;)

Terrific time! I would like to see the 60' as the launch must have been good with a 95mph TS. Not bad for cam and RR only!
No ecu, headwork, no inlet manifold changes yet? This is going to be one quick ute. |

I had been doing soft little (1st gear) burnouts for most of the day because I had heard that street tyres don't like big burnouts at the drags. Wheelspin had not been a problem so I thought bugger it, I did a massive 3rd gear burnout and put on a bit of a smoke show, LOL. The run that followed that burnout got me the 14.544 and 2.107. Burnouts rule!!! Quote:

Everyone tells me the stock exhaust is crap, but it doesn't seem to bad to me. I think it was a bit better again the SII and SIII XR8's?

Thanks guys, I am still pretty pumped.
I really wanted to get well into the 14's, say 14.8-14.7, but I didn't expect a 14.5. The times just kept dropping, and in the end I did 4 laps in the 14.5x I am putting all my timeslip results into Excel so I can map out the day a bit. I'll post them up soon. My Sister is bringing her camera around for me today, so I'll take some snaps of my $8 CAI mod.

I am thinking probably a higher stall converter? I could fit that myself and save a couple of bucks. I head read about that cam a bit on FFAU, FF, and Corral. Was recommended for GT40 style heads and Cobra/Explorer intakes. Also supposed to be centrifugal supercharger friendly which is on my list.

I bought it second hand almost 3 years ago.
It could have aftermarket cats back, but I am pretty sure it's not. I have stuck my head under a few stock XR8 utes before, and it looks identical i.e. big heavy and ugly. Apart from the rough idle, it's pretty quite too :(

Frigging hell. That's what I'm talking about.. I wonder if most AU 5.0Ls would get similar results with that little change?

The headers and exhaust are the worst on the non-xr AU V8's, and I think are the only real difference between 175kw and 185kw. Would be interesting to know what numbers you could get out of a stock 175kw AU with a similar cam. Sedans are lighter than utes so should be a little quicker off the line and in terminal speed too.

Yeah I was wondering what the same spec Fairmont Ghia would run, and also a manual XR8.

Have a look at AUV8GHIA's (fairmont ghia) times in the Au falcon times thread. He was low 14's with a 2031 cam exhaust and chip. Has since done stall/gears/manifold as well.
