Whats wrong with your local product(ford-holden)are you not a proud Australian?you guys have some great home built vehicles over there : why would ya want a rice burner when your own country cars are so good be it late model or a classic,plus value for money :

If you don't want a Ford or Holden due to the common factor, then there is no point in looking at a 2 door skyline, Silvia, 180SX or Supra, as these are nearly just as common. I like the idea of the Camaro/ Firebird, rare out here, and pretty cool.

how about one of these, they have just about everything you could want, but be aware parts are`nt cheap , but a very nice limo indeed, if your tall and it has a sun roof though you might find it a little claustrophobic.

well i think it boils down to how much stuffrrrsn around you want to do when it comes to repairs,my nephews got one of those high tech import thingys(dont even want to know wat it is),nothin but a money pit!!!!,yeah it mite be better(faster,out handle and perform) than my xc cleveland but his has spent more time in shop than mine has on road !!!unless your an absolute mechanical wizard/electrical engineer and full of money,sorry wouldnt touch anything high tech IMO,classic aussie/yank v8 muscle easy to fix ,easy on wallet , XR6TURBO give these high tech riceburners a run for there money !!!,try a v8 LEXUS,power and mod cons and good prices

Thats absolute rubbish. Mate its your money, but buying something like that, you might as well just take the $18,000 out of your account and set it on fire. Honestly, what is wrong with your XR6? Can you really say youd prefer some gay volvo in your driveway that just looks ridiculously stupid to some modern, powerful awesome looking car such as your XR?

Work out what appeals to you the most; looks, uniqueness, grunt or handling and go from there.

I've always preferred smaller cars for their handling & braking, so my sympathies lie there. If you don't have to carry around a lot of people I'd be thinking MR2, GTiR or an early Evo.

You may miss the instant torque and livability of the XR6 but the toddlers have other benefits. While most of my cars have handled well, they wouldn't win many traffic light grand prix and you can get frustrated about other cars braking too early and cornering too slowly. I'm sure that you can get the Camaros to handle better but I imagine that the ride would be pretty bad (again I don't know if this is important to you)

Thats a good one. My old man owns an '89 one exactly the same as that except the lighter red. They are amazingly fast being so light, they handle great (suspension setup is awesome, IRS, huge swaybars, rollbars etc) and get plenty of looks. Only thing that could become annoying having one as a daily is they are very low to the ground. They never scrape on anything but if you're as fat as me getting in and out you look pretty stupid. They also have a wicked dash, sort of like the old XF digital speedo clusters except a lot better, and theres a switch that switches in between metric and imperial. The auto is a better choice, I think a manual with that amount of power in a car that light would be a bit dangerous in the wet. That wont pass roadworthy as it is now, the outer rear lights will need to be changed to orange, not difficult or expensive just thought Id say. Dont worry about that price, you could knock that down $3000 at least, more if theres any sqeeks or rattles, check things like the arm rests that they are tight and dont move, as they often just fall apart. Also check for cracked paint around the lip on the boot lid.

Sure they look like fun on paper. But talk to some owners and see what sort of dramas you have with "exotics".

Anyhow, turbo or supercharged in Cairns is not a good mix. I'd stick with a naturally aspirated big 6 or an 8. Plenty of Clubsports and T-Series about for the kind of money you have and they won't cost you an arm and leg to keep going.
Well said also the Jap import will cost a fortune to repair if anything goes wrong unless having the coin to fix and insure the car is not a problem

I've always liked those 1984 - on Corvettes and I would've originally suggested it but their general prices seemed a bit out of your budget.

If it's got the Z51 suspension option it might be a bit harsh for a daily driver.

Its not like a second hand 2JZGTE is hard to come across, grab a hot4s magazine and look in the advertisments section, there is lots and lots spare parts available for all sorts of jap imports. Its not like it costs $2 to repair a Falcon/Commodore either.

The problem is finding one which hasn't had the clock wound back at the docks in Japan, problem with 300ZXs, you have to look at the gaps in the panels and interior condition to judge how much the car has been used etc.

R34 GT-T i reckon. There are piles of aftermarket parts, relatively cheap on fuel, RWD, turbocharged 2.5L I6. They sound good too.

Hah yeah, you look at the front cuts of Toyotas and such. They say only 89,000km's etc etc - and you check the timing belt and there is a plaque saying it's received its 100,000km timing belt change lol

The price of turbo imports has really dropprd since P platers can no longer have turbos.

Before the XR6T I currently have I had an R34 GTT Skyline (straight turbo 6, RWD) - picked it up for $15K. Have to say it was a great car - the only thing you WILL have to repalce if not already done so is the coilpacks ($500 for aftermarket ones). Besides that modifying them is mega addictive, would have easily spent another $5-7K on bits and pieces. A bleed valve, exhaust and a high flow fuel pump saw 210rwkw (all in a light RWD coupe).

Can't really compare it to the XR6T as apples and oranges but it was nice to own somehting different for a while - they certainly attract a lot of attention (both good, bad and the law). The XR6T suits me better at the moment (6 speed auto great for city traffic and much more discreet).

Got bored with aussie stuff when I was younger too. Wanted a vette but the insurance was $5000 per year as I was only 22. I ended up with a highly modified merc 190E. Big stereo, wheels, ultra low. Wasn't the fastest car but was a lot of fun.

I don't see whats so great about an old BMW with an odo that "has stopped" and he guesses it has 232,000kms! WTF how is that worth $15k. It would be a money pit.
