Default Where Is the Best Place to Sell My Car

Hi guys, hoping some advice on the best place to sell a 2011 G6e turbo- 232,000k's ungaraged but regularly serviced (ive owned it since approx 20,000k's). I just want it to go to someone who will love it, hence me finding my way to these forums. Any advice appreciated.

In my experience, you will get a heap of people trying to low ball you on facebook marketplace (eg $5k under asking price "cash today"), and people who don't turn up for a look. People on carsales are more seriously looking for a car and have the ability to filter in all sorts of ways, so tailor your ad to meet these filters (eg price at $xx,750 so your car falls into their search criteria). Also, I recommend you fully write your own wording on carsales, don't use the generic text they provide - in my view it show you haven't put any effort into the ad. Give as much history as you can, including service history. I always try to anticipate common questions and have the answers in the ad. In essence, tell the story of the car, including why you're selling it. Good luck with the sale.

Trying to sell my mums X-Trail on Marketplace at 10k. On carsales they are advertised at 12-14k for the same as hers. It's a nightmare, so many people offering 5k. Thought it would sell quickly on Marketplace being so cheap, I was wrong. On to Carsales and I don't have to filter the countless crack heads and tyre kickers.

I'd stick with Carsales.

Couple of tips, lazy Carsales ads are a pet hate of mine.

- The pics you take are what will gets you the hits, so take some time to make them perfect. Don’t go overboard, 8 to 10 is all you need if they are quality.

- Don’t publish pics of random items on the car. So many I see are of things like the window switches, or a button on the dash. Why people do this is beyond me, all cars have switches and buttons!

- Don’t publish pics that are out of focus, taken in poor light, or of the car wet. Sounds obvious, but again, people seem to do this.

- Take (or use) a couple of pics of the front, couple of the rear, couple of the side and a couple of the interior. Take these in natural light, not in a garage or in bright sun. An empty carpark is ideal or against a solid background like a wall. You want the car to standout, not the stuff in the background. For the interior, I take these from behind the front seat, angling in from the rear door and aiming for a wide angle shot. Again, a neutral background helps the interior standout.

-DO take your crap out of the car before taking pics of the car.

- DO clean the car before taking picks of it, inside and out.

- If the engine bay is dusty, don’t bother taking photos of that, in the buyers eyes, it looks like you didn’t care for the car. If you do want to “clean” the engine bay, then give it a hose down at the car wash, don’t freak out, this can be done safely, just don’t go pointing the water in one spot for too long. Take it for a drive to dry, then take pics.

- Don’t solely rely on the generic/auto generated Carsales description of your car, I HATE these with a passion. I don’t know how many times I’ve read an ad for V8 Falcon as being “ideal for first car buyers”……….Lol! Sure, include it if you want, but prioritize some words of your own. You know the sort of thing………… “great car”, “well taken care of”, “full-service history”, "reluctant sale"………………basically it’s your chase to sell the car in your own words, convince someone why this is the car for them. The auto generated spiel is pointless and so impersonal, which makes your listing fade into the background.

Best of luck.

Everyone from Gumtree moved to FB marketplace since Gumtree started charging to list cars, it's absurd.

A quick getaround on Gumtree is to list the car as MISC GOODS.
No fees.

Sold an i30 on marketplace recently. Never again. Something like 130 messages in 24 hours. Too many scammers, car resellers and just morons.
It’s amazing how many people were basically begging me to let them come look first because they were desperate.

FB Marketplace for the cheaper cars and Carsales for the more expensive ones. Take time to write a comprehensive ad with good photos 👍

Cheers Adrian

Some cars have seat heaters or steering wheel heaters as an option and a photo of these makes you think, yes I'll want that vs a line in the description.
And I'd add, take photos in widescreen and level...those sideway shots do my head in, out and around....

I think the low end of town is struggling at the moment. Very slow.

When looking for my Everest (circa $40k) cars were moving. Some would take longer than others but there was clear movement in the market.

Trying to sell my territory (sz ts diesel) and the market is stagnant. Asking $10k which is below market value and very little interest. Been 5 weeks now and all the same cars that were on there when I listed mine are still there.
