I'd much prefer yesterday's weather than today's (apart from the fires, of course). 36.8° top yesterday. 17° now. Feels like 15°!

Totally agree! (So so over Melb weather)
Maybe my imagination but growing up in the 60s and early 70s I remember Melbourne Summers having day after day of 100 degree (37.8 c) days!
As kids we seemed to spend our entire summer school hols at Essendon baths.

Obviously, you and I share the same memories and era except I lived at Ivanhoe swimming pool.
You also forgot to mention the early evening electrical lightning shows with the summer thunderstorms for relief.
They were great summer days compared to what we get now.

We had one called Spud when he first popped out of the mound.

It probably has been the hottest summer in Brisbane for easily 20 years. Not so much the actual (dry bulb) temperature. More the combination of temperature, humidity, and gentle breezes that has pushed "apparent" temperatures into the troppo zone. There have been a long runs of day after day where the apparent temperature was around 40C or above, and the overnight apparent temperature has hovered around 30C.

In turn, this has resulted in some crazy high electricity peak demand. The prior peak demand was 10,179MW set on 13 Feb 2019. On Mon, 22 Jan 2024, the peak demand smashed that by going over 11,000MW (during school holidays!!!)

It will be nice when this summer is over.

Years back it was kind of funny but in the same way strange that 821 pac hwy in chatswoo had an issue with bush turkeys. Dunno how they were in such a built up area, dunno how they didnt get hit by cars on the main roads. They'd get chased away by the security staff in the mornings only to return the next morning. We would always joke that the security person would be chasing them with 2 peices of bread in the hopes of a sandwich for lunch.

Originally Brush Turkey's were only found north of the Hawkesbury River. We had a few living around us at any given time on the Central Coast.
I guess one day one of them decided with the missus to walk across the bridge onto the Hornsby Shire side.

Years later when we would regularly stay at Lane Cove NP caravan park we would see them popping out of the bushes and rummaging through campers sites.

The Euro backpackers were fascinated by them.

We haven't actually had any days at 40 degrees BUT what we have had is weeks on end with mid to high 30s but with a dew point of 25% which makes the humidity feel so much higher. My misses is into this stuff and is forever telling me it's not that hot just the humidity.

Little tale, when we moved to the "Sunshine State" back in April 1990 it rained for something like 9 weeks, occasional small breaks but just rained. By the end of June I was ready to move anywhere that was dry and my dog was ready to come with me. Our back yard was a swamp and the septic couldn't work properly due to the water everywhere, yep welcome to sunny QLD.

Fair dinkum I'm over it!!!

Feels like its been north of 35* for over a month and now a dry dust bowl.
I can remember hot Summers, even hotter spells during those Summers, but you got a day or 2 of relief here and there.
This seems relentless.
And Ol' mate next door bought a Tesla which should have saved our neighbourhood from this climate change surely.
Im at the point where growing an extra head and moving to Tazzy is a genuine consideration.

So the babies in Melbourne had another hot day on Sat, of course declaring most of the state a total fire ban.

Its cooler down there now, here we still are in average 35 deg days for the last week or so and there's no fire ban.
Geeze I wonder how we survive without all the interference from south of the range.

A few cooler days settling in for Greater Sydney. It’s nicer for yard yakka than thirties.

Hit an awesome bit of sheet water (maybe 60-70mm deep) on the road early today - luckily only going about 40. Front underside of the ute got a good bath.

Cooler change over here at the moment aswell, high 20's to low 30's forecast for this week.
The humidity in the mornings has been a killer though, its at 90% as I type.
The car didn't enjoy it either on our run up the coast this morning. It was no where near as snappy as normal and the Weber's were lacking their distinct bark.
